This is a panic hire. It definitely reminds me of Avery Johnson.
They can beat them. They've already lost some games this season. Alabama played them pretty tough without its second leading scorer. UCONN plays much better defense than Alabama. That Karaban dude knows how to win. Would not be surprised to see them pull it out.
Mick Cronin says the tradition of UNC isn't a factor anymore

I think it's pretty obvious now. NIL changes everything. UNC is dealing with the same issue UK dealt with. UNC also thinks they are too uppity for certain coaches (Oats, Golden) so all they're going to do is just make it even harder on themselves more so than UK did. Coaches are turning them down left and right. These coaches can now get a fat contract with good NIL funding and build a highly competitive team at a non traditional school.
Oats just signed a top 5 contract and he doesn't have to deal the crazy pressure that comes with a blueblood. Same with Golden. He can stay put and get a top salary while competing for championships without being in a pressure cooker.

Yeah, it's pretty silly. But there's definitely that mentality going around from what I've seen on their message boards. I guess Florida and Alabama will stay winning while they hire the next Pope clone cause that's what they're going end up with with that mentality and of course the other good coaches are turning them down left and right. I don't think Oats nor Golden would leave anyways so their attempts would be futile. Oats already shot down UK before it even gained any legs.

-Dusty May says he's not going to pursue UNC job. https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/dusty-may-spurns-unc-too-michigan-head-coach-rejects-suitors-as-he-prepares-for-title-game-vs-uconn/
-Lloyd turned them down and signed new contract
-Otzelberger has no interest
-Oats (who they think they are too good for anyways, lol) has no interest in leaving and just signed a big contract at Alabama today making him one of top 5 highest paid cbb coaches.
-Golden will be staying (who they also think they are too good for)
They are going to end up with a Pope clone. These coaches all realize you don't have to go to a blueblood anymore to win big in this new NIL era. You can get a fat contract, good NIL funds to build a roster and have nowhere near the pressure as a UNC or UK. It's basically life on comfortable mode.

Some people might not like it (fog's), but our best chance in this day and age to win a national championship is in basketball with Nate Oats. It doesn't cost nearly as much as football. I'm all for giving Oats whatever NIL money he wants and putting football on the back burner. Oats is the man and deserves the backing. He could potentially build an elite type program with the right backing.

Haters gonna hate

I hope she wins and sinks the NFL. Roger Goodell deserves it.
Also, so this is where Nate Oats gets his assholery. Oats is real close with the Hurley's. They pretty much got him into the college game. Remember a few years ago he did this to LSU:

There should be a dedicated "Hurley Cam" for every single game he coaches in. I could binge watch Hurley videos.

Bama had a shot to make it really close.. They are better but Oats had them playing his pace and we went cold at a bad time. Mara was sucking eggs at the half.
It would have taken us shooting well and Bama did not have a good shooting game . Make them keep playing that first half pace and they might have run out of gas.
That's where it would have helped to have Holloway who averages 17ppg and shoots it at 48% for the season and 43% from 3 point land. He messed his teammates and himself up. Philon kind of had to do everything and didn't have much help. I guess Philon made himself some money tho.

Dang, they are getting smoked. Alabama put up a better fight and they were missing their second best scorer. Seems like Tennessee is never gonna get over that hump and into a Final 4.

I'm on team Levin. I still do not trust Megyn. Mark at least has been super supportive of Trump for several years.

So is there any town in Louisiana where the majority of the population still speak French as their first language? I've always wondered as an outsider.
This guy is from Minnesota. Nothing good ever comes out of Minnesota. They have a pretty good track record of that.
Holloway shot 48% from the field this season and 43% from three point land. It was a gut punch. Definitely needed him. Absolutely dumb he threw it all away when he was already making NIL money.

“Nate Oats can’t get past the Sweet 16, he sucks!” all while celebrating rehiring a coach who has never made it past the Sweet 16
Not only that, but he only has 1 Sweet 16 in 12 seasons as head coach. Oats has more Sweet 16's in the last two seasons than he does in 12. Oats has 5 Sweet 16's, 2 Elite 8's and 1 Final 4 in 5 out of the last 6 seasons. Willy is terrible at picking his battles
re: Bama fans. How angry are you with Holloway?
Posted by Contra on 3/28/26 at 11:27 am to HailToTheChiz
I mean it was 17ppg that was lost. It's a pretty big deal. It's disappointing. We definitely could have used him. It is what it is. Sweet 16 is still good given all the injuries this season and the lack of a rim protecter. Philon made him some money last night.
Yeah, I'm sure Nate fears a guy who has 1 Sweet 16 appearance in 12 seasons as head coach
We were always going to be fighting an uphill battle in the tourney after losing Aden Holloway. Losing 17ppg is a pretty big deal. We were able to overcome it in the first two games in a big way, but we definitely could have used him tonight. It is what it is. I'd say the season was a success considering all the injuries they had to endure all season and the lack of a rim protecter. Still finished 2nd place in the SEC and made the Sweet 16 even after losing our second best player. I trust in Oats that he will get this thing straightened out.
