Are we really going to go into the season passively?
Its time to wake the hell up and remember that we are the greatest fanbase on the planet.
Keelon is going to look like the terminator throwing piss missiles to our receivers, and Hill plus Crowell will be like Thor and Hulk. Roll motherland tide

You bet your arse I am. The Saban aura has left. The NIL/transfer portal combo has killed the passion of many many fans. I still want bama to win but it just ain't the same anymore.

We could be an 8-4 team or 10-2 team. I really just don’t know. You can’t assume that we’ll just be of a certain quality anymore. If injury fortune is worse than last year - and it wasn’t particularly great - then worse than 8-4 is possible.
That’s college football in 2026. Indiana may look like Indiana again this year instead of 2008/2009 Bama. Every year is a new story more so than any time in cfb history.

And it's only a matter of time before 8-4 teams are making the CFP. All of the changes at exactly the same time feel like a demoralization campaign Sherman himself couldn't have dreamed of

That being said, I'm optimistic. At the very worst, we'll see what needs to change and we're in a position to make said changes. Keelon is special and I pray we actually play him because he should've been playing last year and didn't.
Yes, it's different. I too see the quasi-religious importance of college football slipping more and more, even in real life, but come game time I'll be here and I think all of us will. Sitting here watching the biggest American soccer game in history and I can't help but think I'd rather see Alabama playing the local VFW instead.

lol, me too. the only things i know about soccer is you kick the ball into the net, then the refs decide if you get to keep it. also, every team could teach the wwe about faking injuries. so as soon as they actually ran out of time i switched to the college FOOTBALL replay on the b1g network, didn't even care who the teams were.

I’m not really pessimistic either. Probably more realistic than optimistic though. We’re a top 25 team with a shot at a playoff bid. That’s not a bad place to be and we need to be okay with that until they fix this sport. As long as your roster is up in the air every offseason and billionaires and millionaires can just buy anyone who responds to money (most people), you can’t just assume we’re going to win it all every year.

This is basically where I am. I was die-hard all through the Dubose, Fran and Shula years, so Saban leaving alone isn’t going to deter me. But the way the game of team building has gone has lost me. It used to be fun to watch guys develop and kind of know your team year over year.

This is a young man's post. And I like the attitude.
Worry not, man. Alabama is Alabama almost exclusively because of the fans. We were here long before Bear, and we will be here aeons after Saban.
One thing about us is we put asses in the seats, we stay to the end, and we buy the merch. Some of us are unreasonably hardcore and relentless to coaches, but most of us can live Bama fandom the right way and be happy, and cheer, and support the team and staff until it's truly time to replace staff.
It really does border a religion for too many, but to be fair to Alabama (as a state), we don't have a lot we're able to hang our hats on except football. We don't have a lot to do. And when the sun breaks, and the cool fall air rushes in and we are all relieved of the suffocating misery of summer.... there it is. The most beautiful time of the year with the most fun possible sport of all time fielded by the best team of all time and the best traditions.
You're damn right we're the good guys. Because of our fans. We have millions of fans. Some will be psychos, and some will be fair-weather. I always look forward to shaking off those guys as a silver lining to when times get tough (which they aren't yet whatsoever).
At any rate, don't worry. We will always be a fanbase that takes the sport seriously.

at this point i'm a "lets just wait-n-see fan" or basically a "swagless fan" who's passion has been replaced with detest for the current system.

In defense of our coaching staff, I think that's what they want too. We've had fantastic retention. I hate what it's all becoming, but if the team is full of guys who we can genuinely consider our guys and not mercenaries I'll keep watching even if my emotional investment isn't there anymore.

It’s what the sport should be about and I hope they’re making the right bet. Would be awesome for the sport if we had great success this season with a well compensated but mostly internally developed roster

By that logic, Arkansas, Montana, Utah, South Dakota, New Mexico, Nevada, Idaho, etc. should all have rabid fanbases too.
I only lived in Alabama for five years and never had any issues with it for the most part. I never found myself "bored". I'm from Florida and now live in Georgia and there really isn't some massive difference between the three states and I've been to every corner of them all. Ubless you want to address size (Birmingham is smaller than Atlanta/Miami; the coastline is shorter than Florida's) but day to day life isn't radically different. Alabama isn't some uniquely terrible place people on the internet pretend it is. At times I wish I still lived there.

I admit, our winning history helps fans care... but I'm still right about our neck of the woods in the country in terms of less shite to do than other places. We do have a ton of outdoor activity we can rock. Just not a bunch of big city life. Understand, I couldn't be prouder to be from another state. Period. I love where we're from. I love our people.
It doesn't HURT our program that we don't have other major sports or entertainment distractions to pull away from the excitement.

This is kind of it for me. It's not even about he team, I just don't like the overall landscape of the sport these days an it's diminished my overall enthusiasm.

Deboer will run the program into mediocrity until he is replaced. Extending his contract was insanity.

I've heard this nonsense my whole life. I have no explanation for it, but there's this weird slave morality in the Old South that desperately wants to keep it down. I don't understand it, but you can hear it in old country songs as well. It's a thing... a dying thing, but a thing.
