We have people who want to bench the starting QB who accounted for 5 TDs, threw 3 tds on only 9 passes, leads the country in QB rating, ran for 2 tds and 79 yards, for a guy who against the same team failed to complete 60% of his passes, threw for no TDs, got bailed out of a bad pick, who has never thrown a TD pass in any game, etc etc etc.
They both had 9 passes in the game, Milroe produced 200 yards, 77% completions, 3 TDs, 22 ypa, didnt sniff a pick. Simpson passed for 66 yards, 56% completion, threw a bad pick, in a zero pressure situation where the game was sealed away. Normally when you are begging for the backup QB its because the starter is sucking and the backup is killing it, we are so ridiculous that we want the backup when hes sucking it up and the starter is putting up silly production.
We have had 2 completely different coaching staffs (including one that contained the greatest coach in history) look at both players for months and years and came to the same conclusion that milroe is the better QB. This fanbase is just dumb as hell, thats all there is to it.

We have a national fan base and appeal. There are lots of benefits to that but a negative is that there are a lot of stupid arse people who are fans. We’re on a message board where those stupid arse people feel emboldened because people will read their ramblings whereas in real life people just ignore the shite they’re saying at a Buffalo Wild Wings bar.
Theres stuff to work on. The team looked pretty damn good. 1-0 mentality. We won this week. On to South Florida.

I don't remember a team like this having a revenge game mentality against an opponent that they beat, but it certainly feels like USF is in for a long night. No rain or thunderstorm delays to help them keep it close this year.

I hope that we hang half a hundred on them after last year.

I think some on here get suckered in by these posers that comment about certain players just to get a reaction. And some on here are more than happy to oblige them.
I don’t know jack shite about the X’s & O’s of the game or how to evaluate talent, but it’s pretty damn obvious who the best QB is on this team right now

Very well put.
They are crazy people. Totally illogical. Constantly fantasizing about another superior qb on the team that doesn't exist.
I'm tired of them. I'm particularly tired of their antics in the first half of the first quarter of the game.

I get why people are concerned about having Milroe as our QB, but I don't get why people think Simpson is better. Ty throws a better ball, and operates better, but he also plays timid and scared which leads to panic plays and mistakes.
Jalen's running ability gives opposing DCs nightmares and actually does make our offense more difficult to stop.
Jalen was enough to go undefeated in the SEC last year, including Georgia. I see no reason to replace him.

People wanted to see Milroe stand in the pocket, read the defense and then consistently hit 5-15 yard passes and not hold the ball too long. That was the biggest problem last year. He was electric last night, but in the same way he was last year. Deep balls and running were never his problems. Unfortunately (or fortunately) we didn't get to see if he improved on those intermediate throws because we scored so fast and made a lot of big plays. Now it's not his fault he's hitting the open guy for a 70 yard TD I'm just saying the game flow didn't allow us to see if that skillset improved.
I'm not naive enough to believe that we will always have WR's running free or that RW will continue to score every time he touches the ball. I'm wanting to see if Jalen can put together drives where he is required to repeatedly make intermediate passes like what was required last year during the Texas game.
I'm not saying Ty is better and I'm not saying Jalen can't make the throws. I'm just saying until I see him do it I'm reserving judgement.

No point; at this point there are three tiers regarding Milroe on this board:
1. He can do no wrong. Any of his failures are to blame on blocking or playcalling.
2. He’s got flaws but is our best option and has the ability to continue improving. If he doesn’t improve or regresses he could get passed.
3. He’s a liability, he’s never going to improve and he’s only playing because the coaches are playing favorites based on something other than performance and ability to lead the offense.
1 & 3 are equally unreasonable and illogical.

yall mother frickers need help, dude is a crazy good athlete who has what it takes to win us a natty. he's less limited than jalen hurts was IMO, and he was a great bama QB. Nobody's perfect, but he's a stud and a great leader.

This is spot on. I think most Bama fans are 2, but we usually just hear from numbers 1 and 3 arguing back and forth. I don’t mind these fans either, it’s what drives this Bama program. The fans demand excellence and the program delivers

I think there’s also a 4th category:
He’s got flaws, is a clear liability in some areas, is not our best option, but he can improve and is plenty good enough to win a lot of games just the way he is. However, I don’t think we will unleash the full potential of our offense with him running the show until he makes dramatic improvements in his pocket presence & his ability to quickly read the field, move through progressions, and make quick decisions.

If he wasn't the best option RIGHT NOW, I'm certain Kalen DeBoer would have benched him in favor of Ty Simpson. Everyone liked to argue that Saban preferred to start the more senior player, but DeBoer came in with a clean slate and still gave the nod to Milroe.
Posted on 9/2/24 at 12:16 pm to RollTide1987
Nah, it’s a lot deeper than starting the senior player. I addressed it in the other thread. Milroe is a great ambassador for the university and has done a great job branding himself as QB1. He’s clearly won the personality competition for that spot, and that’s not a bad thing at all. Everybody loves him. It’s impossible to dislike him or pull against him. And as someone else mentioned, he played an integral role in keeping our roster largely in tact after Saban left.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s the best QB, and in this case I don’t think he is. But he will win a lot of games.
First world probs for sure.
