Not sure I’ve ever seen someone get so worked up over message board hypotheticals. Little silly.

Which is why he literally said

Wow, he’s a POS if this is true. Death penalty, hopefully.

You even quoted it. I totally agree. If this is true, he deserves the death penalty.

Miles Releases Statement, Maintains Innocence In Fatal Shooting

Former UA basketball player Darius Miles said in a statement on Monday that he stands beside his innocence in the fatal shooting on Sunday.

“Darius Miles and his family are heartbroken tonight over the death of Jamea Jonae Harris," Miles said in a statement released by his attorney William White. "While Darius has been accused of being involved with this tragedy, he maintains his innocence and looks forward to his day in court. Our firm's own investigation is ongoing, and no further statement will be made at this time."

The University issued the following statement:
"The University of Alabama's upmost priority is the safety and well-being of the campus community. We are grieved by the incident that occurred near campus last night and extend our deepest condolences to the victim's family and friends.

"We are grateful for the quick and thorough response of the law enforcement and emergency response teams, and we will continue to fully support the ongoing investigation. We were made aware of the recent charge against student-athlete Darius Miles; he has been removed from campus and is no longer a member of the Alabama men's basketball team."

Alabama athletics also issued a statement:
"First and foremost, we extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim from last night's incident. We were made aware of the recent charge against student-athlete Darius Miles, and he is no longer a member of the Alabama men's basketball team. Athletics, in conjunction with the University, is fully cooperating with this investigation."

I realize that the university is rushing (and rightly so) to distance themselves from Miles and this tragedy, but come on.

I truly hope he had nothing to do with it, but unless he wasn't driving and also wasn't the shooter I don't know how that's possible.

So many hypotheticals …

I mean, are you still innocent if you were there (as a driver or non-gunman) during a fatal shooting and haven’t said anything? Then celebrating at games when you were a witness to something like that?

So much tragedy here.

If you arent the shooter, I would think you have to have some level of conspiracy or at least knowledge to be charged like Miles is. To me this sounds like they were rolling on somebody

In Alabama you can be charged with murder for many things. A friend’s nephew was with a group of kids who were committing minor vandalism and someone came upon them, fired a warning shot into some bushes to stop them. The problem was, there was a kid in the bushes who was killed. The nephew was charged with murder 2d degree and did time because they were in the act of committing a crime. The man who shot the girl was not charged.

Would he have been charged for murder if his "warning" shot(s) into the bushes killed any of the vandals?

First off this is incredibly tragic. Prayers to the young lady and her family. I hope Miles had nothing to do with it, ruining so many lives for nothing.

Second, Gary is an absolute legend. He decided on his own accord the laws of men did not stand and he was going to take justice into his own hands. It worked out for him and his son.

This would only be similar to the Miles situation if Miles was actually in the process of committing a crime. He could have been, but right now we don't know that for sure.

The shooting happened after the game.

The game was from 3:00-5:00 Saturday. the shooting occured at 1:45 am Sunday. "After the game" is somewhat a misleading context. Sounds like shooting broke out right "after the game."

Sources say Miles tried to avoid the situation and did NOT pull the trigger. However, he was in the car and the gun was his, therefore he was charged with capital murder along with alleged shooter Michael Davis of Maryland.
Sources add that the district attorney plans to have Miles testify that Davis was the shooter and that that COULD result in the reduced charges against Miles.
Again, Miles reportedly tired to avoid the situation after an argument on the Strip, but his friend Davis refused to let it go.
The matter will have to play out legally, and in the meantime, both suspects are being held without bond in the Tuscaloosa County jail.
