I mean there's nothing they can do. They don't have the relationship with downs that Saban or T Rob had. They literally can't make that time up. What do you think they should be able to do?
I don’t know, but I’m not paid millions to know either.
DeBoer kinda needs some wins here. The head coaches of Buffalo and USA (though they may be good and will bring a heavy dose of leadership in the long run) aren’t exactly going to set the world on fire to recruits and players.

It is compared to us at this second. Plus, a bag. Familiarity is also important in business

Hmmm...this team must not be very talented
Carson Beck 4*
Ladd McConkey 3*
Brock Bowers 4*
I wonder if there is more to football than star power!

As for Day at Ohio St... he's probably one more loss to Michigan from being run off. I wouldn't call that stable
Maybe stability isn’t the best word. But OSU at least for another year or 2 (the immediate future is what they care about) will be a good team that will be a title threat and who will put guys into the NFL
Our guy might do so but they don’t know. It’s a bit unfair for him but they want a better guarantee

It really would. Maybe it would help people lower their expectations and just enjoy the games for what they are. Instead of fearing a loss more than enjoying a win, we can now appreciate the thrill of victory.
It dawned on me im recent years that I loved CFB just as much when Bama sucked than I do when Bama wins every game. I wouldnt trade those 17 years for anything, but CFB is a shell of what it was when I first got hooked in 1996

Yep, that’s callled sound business decision making.

Yep, Downs made a business decision out of high school and he’s making one now. He did not come to Alabama because he really loved the strip and all of the lore of bear bryant
It really is as simple as this. They are not fans. They are employees. When another company offers more money with better opportunities a vast majority of people would jump. That’s ok. We will be fine. We aren’t Arkansas. We have too much tradition built over a hundred years to get upset over a 19 year olds decision

My love for the game I've grown to love is decaying
Posted on 1/17/24 at 11:28 am to UhOhOreo
off subject, but that Saban/McCarron gif of UhOhOreo is my all time favorite.

It is exactly what Saban sales to these kids when he’s recruiting them. It’s what he preaches when they are at bama.

Kelly's first year at LSU...did they have major defections then? I honestly don't remember.
I can't recall either but there were different circumstances for them. LSU wasn't replacing the GOAT, they were replacing the Shrimp Boat Captain...
I hate that we're likely losing Downs, but at least it seems like he didn't make a knee-jerk reaction and thought it out first; we can only hope his decision won't trigger too many others...

I'm a Bama grad. I met my wife in Tuscaloosa. I walked on the track team over 2 decades ago. I like going back for games (not just football games). I own an embarrassing amount of Alabama gear that is only getting larger.
The thing that sucks to realize is guys like Caleb Downs do not give one shite about The University of Alabama. Most of the guys that signed in 2023 will not graduate from Alabama and many will never step foot on campus after their playing days are over (and most of them won't finish their careers playing football at Bama).
Geno Auriemma gave a good speech the other day about how everything is transactional now in sports. It's like that in real life too. It just sucks. Everyone is encouraged to do what's best for them without any care about anyone around them or the future. It just sucks.

Who is the best pro team in the state? Birmingham Stallions or Alabama?
Posted on 1/17/24 at 11:46 am to JIB
Well by not being able to stockpile the same crazy amount of talent, we won’t be processing the guys who actually WANT to be at Alabama out of the program anymore. We can still pay enough to hold a few Uber-talented mercenaries, but we will also see dudes who are from Bama and grew up loving Bama take on bigger roles.

They should make it like NCAAB and let the players jump to the pro's after 1 year

Employment contracts, especially those in highly specialized fields, frequently include non-compete clauses. These aren't people working at fricking Wendy's leaving to work at McDonald's for an extra $2 an hour. I know that all of the athlete empowerment types desperately want these guys to be able to do whatever they want without repercussions because they have somehow earned that right, but that's just not how actual employment works at this level. You can't treat a high stakes job in a multi-billion dollar industry like it's unskilled labor. Companies that pour a ton of time and resources into training and developing a highly skilled workforce tend to not just let them wander on over to a direct competitor without penalty.

Of course, but in this case, those contracts don’t exist.
At least not yet, and that’s going to be a fair amount of time in the future.
We aren’t getting help by next wednesday

Did Michigan have a lot of players enter the portal since everyone has known for months Harbaugh was headed back to the NFL?
This might end up being the stupidest post on the board today.

I think something prudent is being lost here. Losing Downs sucks. No other way to put it.
How much money did Michigan & UW players make in NIL this season?
As much as tejas and BAMA?
Which two played for a natty?
Did uga even make the playoff?
Ok. With that being said, yes great players are important for teams to have success. But the teams with the highest paid players don't always win. This is true at every level in every sport. Of the players with the highest NIL valuation according to On3, Michigan had 4 players in the top 100 (the highest ranked player was 38th), UW had ZERO in the top 100.
Michigan and UW proved in this insane college frontier that money isn't everything. What it comes down to is coaching. If DeBoer is as good as I think he is, BAMA will continue to win.
Players NIL value here
With that said, you either want to play at BAMA or you don't. If not, there's the fricking door. This is also, coincidently, how I also feel about fandom. There are plenty of fans on the waiting list for your seats if you don't have the stomach for a coaching change. Let's get to the business of allowing Coach DeBoer to put the best team on the field with the players he has and play ball.
