This is a lot harder to pick that greatest CFB teams. Most consider 95 nebraska to be the goat but this? I have no idea so I asked AI to list the top 10 of all time and data used in the rankings. Before the LSU fans melt, this is not my list. I'm just the messenger.
Here’s my top 10 single-season college baseball teams ever, weighting record, dominance, CWS performance, roster talent, and historical reputation.
1. 1995 Cal State Fullerton — 57-9
This is my No. 1. The ’95 Titans were absurd: best record in school history, won the Big West, Big West tournament, Baton Rouge Regional, and the CWS. In Omaha they went unbeaten and outscored the field 39-11, including an 11-5 title-game win over USC. Fullerton’s own Hall of Fame calls it maybe the “greatest show” Omaha dirt ever saw, and notes Mark Kotsay was both Golden Spikes winner and CWS Most Outstanding Player.
2. 1975 Texas — 59-6
This is the “holy crap, look at the record” team. 59-6 is cartoonish, especially with a national title attached. Texas went 23-1 in the SWC, won it all, and beat South Carolina 5-1 for the championship behind Mickey Reichenbach and Rich Wortham.
Honestly, if someone put this team No. 1, I would not call them crazy.
3. 1983 Texas — 66-14
The most famous Texas baseball team and arguably the most talented champion ever: Roger Clemens, Calvin Schiraldi, Mike Brumley, Bruce Ruffin, Mike Capel, etc. Texas went 5-0 in Omaha, beat Alabama 4-3 for the title, and became only the 10th team at that point to go unbeaten through the CWS.
This is probably the best “big-game” team on the list.
4. 1978 USC — 54-9
USC’s dynasty peak after the five-peat era. The Trojans went 54-9, had the best record in the country, finished on a 10-game winning streak, went 27-2 in their final 29, and handled the CWS field before beating Arizona State 10-3 for the title.
Classic USC machine: stacked, ruthless, annoyingly inevitable.
5. 1997 LSU — 57-13
This is the “aluminum-bat death star.” LSU went 57-13, won its second straight national title, went unbeaten in Omaha, and hit an NCAA-record 188 home runs, including at least one homer in every game that season.
Were they the most balanced team ever? No. Were they terrifying? Absolutely.
6. 1989 Wichita State — 68-16
The Shockers won 68 games, which is outrageous, then beat Texas 5-3 for the national title. Wichita State’s 1989 team is one of the ultimate “program builder reached final form” teams under Gene Stephenson.
A mid-major team winning 68 games and then finishing the job in Omaha deserves serious respect.
7. 2001 Miami — 53-12
Miami went 53-12, finished No. 1, and won the CWS by beating Stanford in the championship game. The Canes were unbeaten in Omaha, and that title-game demolition of Stanford, 12-1, is one of the cleaner final statements you’ll see.
8. 2003 Rice — 58-12
Rice started 33-1, won 30 straight early, finished 58-12, beat Texas twice in Omaha, and then beat Stanford in the championship series, closing it with a 14-2 hammer job. Rice’s own recap says they led the nation in wins that year.
This team was insanely complete.
9. 2019 Vanderbilt — 59-12
Vandy won the SEC regular season, SEC tournament, and national championship. That is a nasty trifecta in the modern SEC. Vanderbilt posted an SEC-record 59 wins, set school single-season records in homers, RBIs, walks, runs, and strikeouts, and had eight players drafted.
Modern résumé is elite.
10. 2024 Tennessee — 60-13
The Vols went 60-13, won the program’s first national title, and beat Texas A&M in Game 3 of the MCWS finals. NCAA’s championship history lists Tennessee at 60-13, which is an enormous modern record in the SEC era.
Not quite as historically dominant as the top five, but 60 wins plus a title in this era is big-boy stuff.
This is great stuff. Thanks for the hard work. I enjoyed the read.

Nobody has said it wouldn't make sense. ESPN gave reasons it won't happen.

"Alabama's Nate Oats coached high school basketball in Michigan for more than a decade, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Wolverines pursue him. But he signed a new contract in April that runs through the 2031-32 season and made him one of the five highest-paid coaches in college basketball."

everyone can pay money now. He is in the shadow of the football program here and has become an alabama legend. He will have a statue.....so what's another couple of million for him at this point?

One thing Michigan doesn't have? The weather and proximity to the beach. His daughters are all still in HS and college..... I don't see him leaving until they are all graduated .....
