Our talent on d is exceptional. Will they be able to put pressure on the qb - we will have to see. I am thrilled to see these guys in action. When all said and done could be in top 3 of Saban’s units.

Well, GA, Oklahoma and Clemson made our defense look terrible last year, so lets hope something changes. Zero pressure on a quarterback. Kirby Smart said at media days, unless you can pressure a quarterback like Tua, they will just tear you up. Kirby said Alabama was the first team they were able to pressure the QB. Doesn't sound so good for our O line either? But he did say that putting pressure on the QB had been a point of emphasis before they played Alabama. Bottom line is that unless we can pressure a good QB, our defense will get torched again by good teams, and even some bad teams. Big Q was our only D lineman that could get get to the QB, and I didn't see our linebackers doing much either. A healthy T Lewis would solve part of our problems, but we need more help.

Thanks for the info. Can't wait for the season to start.

I’ve heard from a few players that I know that say Trey Sanders will be the real deal and that K Rob will eventually be a J Jacobs clone like back. Also, if Waddle is the best WR, teams are going to be deep do-do trying to cover all our talented WR’s...not a knock on Waddle but Jeudy, D Smith, Riggs and the new comers just reap of talent! Just wished they had a little more height but I’ll take them over any other schools around. Not wishing time away but I’m ready for football to start...I hope the team is as hungry as I am, especially after that last game!

I just don’t see that from his high school tape. The subtle elusiveness and pass patching ability is there. He’s actually probably a lot further ahead of Jacobs at this stage in the route running department as he was asked to do a lot of that in high school whereas Jacobs was basically snapped the ball and asked to do something with it.
Jacobs had that chip on the shoulder, propensity for violent finishing running style that I’m not sure we’ll ever see from Robinson, but on that note he’s about 35 pounds shy of Jacobs. Maybe after some time under Cochran he can get up to the 205 range, but that style is typically either engrained in a back or not. His tape reminds me a lot of Alvin Kamara. Subtle elusiveness in traffic and better in space and out of the backfield than between the tackles.
Jacobs changed the way the staff views running backs. There’s a lot of value in a guy that can be used as a wide receiver from the backfield. Like the athletic tight ends, they are almost always a mismatch in man coverage.
I too am really excited about Trey Sanders. I think as long as he isn’t discouraged by a light load early than he’ll be a really good one. On paper he might be the most well rounded back Saban has signed at Bama. Yeldon is the only other one that comes to mind that had the size and athleticism to be a workhorse between the tackles but was also used as a receiver out of the backfield a lot at the high school level.
Regarding the defense, I’m more concerned about lacking something that’s been a constant under Saban and that’s been an impenetrable rush defense. We’ve had a first round pick manning the interior DL for 5 years now and prior to those guys had tackling machines at middle linebacker that blew plays up at the LOS. I’m hoping one of the big guys in the middle can have a breakout season. I don’t expect a Quinnen Williams type emergence but we need that guy in the middle to be better than serviceable.
I don’t think there are many tackles on the schedule that will be able to block Anoma one vs one all game. From an athleticism standpoint he’s probably the most freakish guy to enter this league in that position since Myles Garrett. Just hope he’s rounded out his game enough to be trusted to do everything asked of him.

Not really not from what I saw. He’s missed a lot of play time and is hungry. He has a lot to prove.

The defense will overall be better and the DL won’t be relying on 1 person.

I can confirm that #Alabama soph. OLB Eyabi Anoma is “currently not attending classes at The University of Alabama,” per the school’s communications office. UA’s July semester runs through July 31. No further information is available at the moment. First reported by @CecilHurt.

The only thing for sure that has been said is that Anoma is not taking classes in the July session. It does not state he did not in the first session or that he will not in the fall. It also does not state he left TTown. Jumping to some early conclusions here.

Kinda reminds me of the Tim Williams situation from a few years ago. Where he didn't start practicing in August until school started. He wasn't on the 105 man camp roster.

I don’t think that news reporters take time to write articles about kids not going to class unless there is a story there. We know it. In all likelihood the guy will in a few days be announced as no longer a part of the program.

bullshite. Articles get written based on whether they make folks click, as mouse clicks generate ad revenue. Whether there is a 'story' is literally irrelevant.
This type of article generates a lot of clicks. Simple as that.

It seeems to me Cecil is butthurt that he couldn't get any info on Anoma from UA. Pathetic piece of reporting, iyam. I've never understood why so many people think he's a great reporter. I quit reading his stuff years ago.
The article says Anoma isn't enrolled, but UA did not tell Cecil that. UA said he's not currently attending classes. Maybe he merely took a break from classes for the Summer-2 term.

It sounded to me more like Alabama was unable to answer a question on a player who is not currently enrolled.
Unless Cecil for some odd reason called just to find out if he was attending classes.

Really hope it's something like that.

1) Cecil is around enough to notice if someone is not present for a few weeks. He may have heard it referenced in conversation.
2) He then makes a phone call and gets the quote, "Anoma isn't currently attending classes.", which is probably legally all they can or want to say, and Cecil uses that quote to blow up the Alabama internet for a day.
3) Profit.
However, if this is much ado about nothing, Saban might get pissed enough to punish ole' Cecil. We'll see.

The one-sentence response from Monica Watts, UA Associate Vice President for Communications, was in response to a query from The Tuscaloosa News.
If Cecil purposely baited such a thing, I think Saban will be the least of the worries. I'm betting the query was not asking if he was in class.

I'd wager it was an information request regarding his status as a student. And they gave his current status.
