shite...we played well up until Clemson and against stiff competition: MSU, Barn, UGA, and OU.

- We were bad offensively against State (great defense, but even with that, we were bad)
- Our defense was bad in the 1st half against Auburn
- Georgia........the whole thing was a mess for 3 quarters
- Oklahoma we were totally out of sorts on defense after the 1st quarter

Obviously that is nitpicky, but when you are 14-1 that's how you have to be. I think the defensive issues started really showing up later in the year. Offensively, teams with elite talent and good coaching started finding chinks and State, UGA and Clemson really put the clamps on some of the stuff we did.

I sat in Razorback Stadium and saw the first signs of issues with the defense. But hard to be critical in the midst of an undefeated season and blowing out opponents.

Yep - like Fairhope said in another thread, if you are looking at it with zero emotion the thing that we need every year is to lose one of those early games. It takes the faults we see but kind of shove aside and puts them right there in front of the players and they seem to respond.

But yea I'd rather still win all the games

South Carolina would be the perfect game to lose because they are an east team.

Ah frick that, we need revenge on those frickers.

Everything points to better coaches, motivated team, hard work, toxic leaders gone.

I can only imagine the shite Saban and Cochran has come up with for that beat down.

Boz, I know that you don't like to name names when it comes to bad stuff, but was Mack Wilson a problem this past season? (ego, leadership, looking towards the pros)

I don’t think we need Boz to know the answer to that question. Mac was one of the more self absorbed players I’ve seen come through Alabama, and I’ve been following closely for 30 years now. I don’t think he’s a bad dude, Mac is just really into Mac.

Well, if he saw it coming after LSU and did nothing to correct the problem before it blew up in their faces, then who is really to blame?

Good point. He should have fired them all and gone the last six games with a three man staff.

Honestly, you make more ridiculous posts about employee relations than anyone on here. Have you ever had a job outside the Army?

The Citadel game was the game where I literally said out loud, "we aint going all the way this year." I probably even posted it on the board. Definitely caught heat for it on social media.

Fans never see flaws until its too late.

It wasnt just the coaches. We were about as bad on defense as it will get under Saban. After the first series or 2 we couldnt stop Ga, Oklahoma or Clemson.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Shane Lee and/or Christian Harris getting a lot of reps, especially early in the season during meaningful games and not just garbage time. I know McMillon is a senior and I'm sure he can get the job done, but both of these freshmen show loads of potential and I think throwing them into the fire early will pay off in a big way towards the end of the season and next year (as we will lose Moses most likely and McMillon for sure).

Sure, there will be growing pains/missed assignments early on, but truthfully, our schedule is not very tough and any blown assignments these two youngsters might cause can be negated by our high octane offense.

Basically I think that if you let them get some live game action, while surrounded by other starters, by mid to late season they won't be freshman anymore. This could also take a position (ILB) that is considered a weakness right now, and turn it into a pretty solid unit with good depth.

Thoughts?

JMO but I am counting on Bama being a much better coached football team on defense with the addition of Sal and Charles Kelly for sure and Brian Baker should be a step up from Coach K.(should be). I believe having Vinny and Tino( offense) is a great addition even though they're grad assistants. Tino is wearing out twitter on recruiting.

With the new D assistants being from State I wonder if we might be more aggressive with exotic blitzes on Defense?

If we see Sunshine again I wonder how he would handle MSU- like blitz packages thrown at him with Alabama's athletes? He clearly did not like pressure when we were able to get any on him.

Hopefully unlike last year, defensive depth will be a strength. The years we were able to sub players in & out with quality talent is when our defense was as fun to watch as our offense.

That was kind of my point regarding the development of Shane Lee and Christian Harris. I'm hoping for a similar situation like in 2015 where we had Ragland, Foster, and SDH, who gave us plenty of high quality depth at the ILB position. Point being, if these young guys aren't developed throughout the season, and a starter goes down with an injury late in the season in a close game and then the young Linebackers have to come in, it could be a huge problem.

I'm with you though that overall we should have more depth as a defensive unit, especially on the DLine.
