He talked about it earlier in the thread. Short answer is that it should be improved.

As you know, I track Bama's scolarship numbers and how recruits and incoming transfers are counted against NCAA signing and counter limits. Please try to find out if Landon Dickerson enrolled at Bama for summer classes, and post it in the pinned recruit thread so I'll spot it. TIA.

I sat in Razorback Stadium and saw the first signs of issues with the defense. But hard to be critical in the midst of an undefeated season and blowing out opponents.

Yeah, that's when I first started worrying about our defense as well...told a friend that teams that wanted a template on how to attack Bama's defense should watch the Arky game film...

The Arkansas game was certainly the big sign that we were having issues with communication and being in the right spot at the right time when presented with play calling that we hadn't completely prepared for. Add to that some physical limitations at spots and it all compounded there at the end.

Pretty cautiously optimistic that this defense has enough experience and leadership in the back 7 (along with talent) that we won't go through nearly as much of that this year.

That should also tell you how good of an offensive mind Chad Morris is. He attacked Bama with far less talent and talent not optimal for his system and the Hogs still managed to carve up Bama’s secondary for 31 points. If he gets his guys in there, they will be dangerous.

ETA: and it would not surprise me if Morris shared some of his insights with his old boss Dabo, helping Clemson and Sunshine destroy Bama.

Hey Boz, what’s the latest on Parks? Is he playing LB or DE?

I hope he is successful. You have to admire and support his desire to be on this football team.

Agree. Strange how secondary was such a weakness last year and appears to be such a strength this year; as it stands right now, think it's our biggest strength on D. With Diggs, Surtain, Jobe, and Carter, we should be the most solid we've been in a long time in coverage...and with McKinney on the back-end, we've got a safety that can both cover and thump.

Only question is who'll be back there beside McKinney...but I thought Mayden looked pretty good when he was back there last season...also think I read somewhere that Carter could move to the other safety but can't recall where I saw that...

Yeah, Dude could have probably already played a lot of significant snaps for 2 years at UF. Much less, he may have been a starter last year.

Our secondary should be legit this year. Let's just hope we get a strong pass rush to help them out. We really need Lewis to finally have a healthy season. I'd also love to see guys like Chris Allen and Anoma get some serious snaps off the bench to keep guys like Lewis and Jennings fresh through the course of a long season.

Kind of like a few years ago, the injuries have really given up some outstanding experienced depth.

We basically add back 3 All-SEC caliber players (Lewis, Allen, Diggs) this year to a group that was already going to be experienced and talented overall.

Not to doubt Lewis but I would argue Anoma is the better athlete and maybe the better all around player. Especially with all the injuries Lewis has been plagued with I expect Anoma to play in front of him. JMO. I do hope Lewis puts together a nice year.

To be honest I'm not really sure what kind of player Lewis is at this point. I assume he's still an above average to very good player, but I truly don't think we really know.

My thoughts exactly. I do hope he lives up to pre-injury expectations. For us but also for his own sake.

What we know is that Saban started him in the Natl Champ game vs Ga. He had 7 tackles and a 13 yard sack in overtime to force the very long field goal that GA made, which set up the second and 26 or whatever it was. That was his first start ever. The prior game vs clemson, which was the first action since the opener, he had 2 tackles, a broken up pass and almost intercepted the ball right out of Kelly Bryant's hands. Who knows if we would have even won the Ga NC game without him. Maybe not. If Lewis is back to where he was the night we played Ga, he needs to be playing.

Yea - but then he had another major injury. Clearly if he's 100% his old self he's a beast.

His new injury which is a knee injury is concerning, some come back full speed after a few months and some require two years. This is a wait and see situation.
I think he has fully recovered from his arm injury and that shouldn't factor into anything.
Hoping Lewis will be able to go full speed this fall; he will be a terror.

Of course. I don't think anyone would argue otherwise. We all know he is an elite athlete and fine football player. Some of us aren't sure he is our best option as first string OLB. He has had another season ending injury since that Georgia game and we know little outside of one game about the guy. I don't doubt him and frankly, I hope he ends up being the guy. Gun to my head right now, I say Anoma first string with Lewis playing significant snaps. August will clear this picture up a bit.

Anyone concerned about whether Lewis comes back tentative or over cautious?
