In that article, it seems to me that Cecil mostly whined about not getting all the info he wanted and spun his non-story to get the clicks he wanted. Pathetic piece of journalism, imo.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but looking at some of his recent tweets it appears his father is very ill and maybe near death. If so, it seems to me that could explain him taking a break from summer-2 to return home for a few weeks.
ETA: From this tweet, it appears to be his grandfather who may be dying:
