Especially a guy like Byron Young, who got meaningful PT as a true freshman due to injuries and depth issues.

Byron Young has played pretty good this year He's not perfect but he's an SEC caliber lineman. He has 4.5 TFLs this year, two came against Mercer, but that's still decent.

Eboigbe is another guy who can be serviceable right now. He's a big guy whose job is to eat up lineman. He's doing a decent job of that. He's got 4 tackles and a PBU.

I wish they could all be Ashawn Robinson and just destroy people from day one. But that's not realistic and these guys we have arent bums.

I think this has alot to do with it.

Also, I think the fact that we run a very complicated NFL combo defense doesn't lend itself to younger guys stepping right in to provide the depth we need. With the style of offenses we face now, I would like to see it simplified to allow for added depth.

Remember how it was said Glen Schumann was really good at breaking down the defense to terms the players could understand? Maybe we should get him back.

so the experienced biguns being gassed and getting pushed all over the field is somehow better than a young one with fresh legs that may go the wrong way, hmm... not in my mind. if this continues, teams will only have to get bama into the 4th qtr to take full advantage.

I posted this the other day from a few guys I know that now scout for the their former NFL teams. The defense is to complicated for many to execute. Missing gaps, running into each other, etc. Hopefully like last year they will improve down the stretch.

IIRC maybe it was Cole or someone on the air was talking about one of the issues is HT. That instead of just calling a play on D and riding with it that he over thinks it and changes based on what he is seeing and still trying to make adjustments up to the snap. Which is causing issues once the ball snap with players not ready.

I’ve actually been pleased with Young and wasn’t trying to hate on his game at all. Was really just referring to the Pete Golding quote/interview where he says Young still doesn’t know what to do all the time. That, along with others not being ready at all, is what is so unnerving.

There are always gonna be a couple Lamichael Fannings in the group. Stephon Wynn was never a surefire prospect. Plus we busted on the big 5 star DT from Louisiana who ended up transferring. There is still time for some of these other guys to step up this year.

Last I saw he was still recovering from offseason surgery due to compartment syndrome: LINK

He wasn't listed on the depth chart that USC released in early September.

This usually doesn't work well in college. In the NFL with 11 guys on the field who know the playbook and the other team inside and out because they are all elite football players and it is literally their full time job to study game film and practice? Sure, you can make those on the fly adjustments and mostly everyone will respond.

In college, however, you will have half the defense doing one thing and the other half doing something else. Keep it simple and let Alabama's superior athletes make plays on defense. HT isn't going to win these on the field chess matches with Kiffin.

Was just thinking about him and Anoma.

Anoma is at UT Martin and has pl;ayed in 3 games so far. Has 1.5 sacks and 6 tackles

Fortunately Ole Miss will be running plays so quickly that HT won’t have time to overthink anything

I think Ole Miss will see a lot of zone defense from us, and we will just have to tackle well to get off the field. That might feel like bend but dont break. A hot QB and receivers will make some plays. We just need to make some too.

I usually don’t like that philosophy but I think some/ a lot of zone will be needed this week

The problem with our DL is that there is no superstar. Just a bunch of ok guys. Our great DLs have always had that one guy creating havoc whether is was Darius, Jon Allen, A Robinson or Q Williams. We just don’t have that dude right now. Burroughs showed me some flashed last week, but apparently doesn’t know the defense which does tell me our defense is way too complex. Guys should be ready to roll by year 2 in any college system.

He actually had 2 big games at the start of 2009, they subbed out Brandon Deaderick a little more early on because of BD's gunshot wound.

Yeah i checked his stats and Dareus had 4 tackles his freshman year and only appeared in eight games. But by the end of his sophomore season, he was a damn hero, even though he only started 4 games.
