Schummann father in-law recently retired from a teaching position at my CC. He lives in Hoover and I know he misses his grandchildren, just sayin.

How do you hand time 4.19? You need to add.24 to that hand time, at least that's what the track and field professionals do. Now I'll accept the electronic times, but not going to accept a HAND-TIMED 4.19. When they the clock stop? When head leaned in or when his chest crossed the line?

They make their free throws for sure.

I like watching them make free throws while the facial expression on the other teams are saying "We don't really worry about free throws."

Doesn't Rutgers have Ron Harper, Jr.? Who is going to TRY to guard him?

Paperwasp, never a track guy to run in plays, no need to rush because was usually wishbone left and wishbone right. I think NCAA may have changed some rules because that seemed to just be a one year thing. Bryant and staff were notorious for finding loopholes like the tear-away jersey but I’m not sure if that originated at Bama.

I remember in the 70’s Bear Bryant would run plays in via back up QB Danny Ridgeway.
He would run from sideline into the huddle, deliver the play and run back to sideline.

He often spoke of coach Crisp and those days. Had only one pair of shoes and when they wore down to basically nothing they inserted a piece of cardboard and kept going.
My father told a story when the beat Kentucky at home with Rupp as coach. A dance the night before the game at Fosters led to some tricky footing because of the fresh wax. Bama put a couple of wet towels in front of their bench and when a player had a chance he would tap his shoes on the wet towels for better footing.
Bama won but Kentucky got revenge later in the year in a blowout.
A good story from the ‘40s. A lot those guys had served in WWII and came back to schools. Those were tough guys.

Coach Crisp, my father played hoops for Bama in '43,'46, and "47. Crisp was coach in '46.
Anyway, I don't think I went to that TCU game, can't remember, but I remember seeing the replay of that particular play. You're right, certain age group remembers that situation well.

How do you determine who is worth the 10-20K? All-conference, or starters, or kicker. Who? Could anybody on the 2 deep opt out only to pick up some cash?

Mid-western bias ever since 1935 when Jay Berwanger from U of Chicago won it. Charles Woodson, Archie Griffen probably should’ve have won twice.
Michigan v OSU we’re one of the few on national TV back in the day and with a lot of the media located in the Midwest the voting was slanted toward those players, ND, Michigan, OSU, lots of southern bias and segregation cost southern players a shot

Just look at what AAU basketball has done. All they do is run up and down the court making flashy plays, alley oops, and dunks. No fundamental training.
They start chucking 3’s at and early age and they use that same form to shoot 3’s and in most cases this affects the arc of FTs, coming out flat.
FTs need to have a different “shot” form from shooting 3s.
Look up Kyle Macy, Calvin Murphy sometime.
For kicks, go to a middle school basketball game and watch everybody shoot 3s during warmups, they all do it.

Like someone on the board mentioned earlier, it will all boil down to team chemistry. Some high spenders gunna look foolish if they’re still 8-4.
