Neither penalty was on the offense either.

One was a roughing the passer on Oatis and the other a hold on a punt return.

Pretty incredible after the amount of penalties we racked up all last season.

Some of the positives from Bama against MTSU were things that didn't happen - turnovers and penalties and drops. Since they didn't happen I think many people didn't realize that the team was playing well.

Bama played as clean a game as they've played in *years* and I don't think enough people appreciate it.

And that was a weak arse call too. He hit the QB's shoulder right after he got rid of the ball.

I think it was because his hand/arm hit the QB's head as he was trying to swat the ball.

By the letter of the rule it was a penalty. I don't dispute that. It just wasn't anything particularly egregious and not something I'd call a stupid decision by Oatis.

This alone speaks volumes about the impact of offseason coaching changes.

I was a bit concerned with how much time of possession MTSU had after the first two series. They moved the ball with their dink and dunk system.

Only problem with dink and dunk is when things squeeze down in the red zone. Teams as such usually can’t cash in on 6.

Greg McElroy on WJOX said this morning that Quinn Ewers was not good at all on long passes, and not good when he's under pressure. Historically, he has connected on something like 20% of passes over 20 yards.

His overall completion rate is around 62% (which isn't great in and of itself). When he's under pressure, it drops to something like 45%.

That was amazing to me, considering how he was carving us up before he got injured last year. It sounds like if we can get some pressure on him, particularly early in the game, we can seriously disrupt him (and the Texas offense as a whole).

Last year the Texas game showed me who we were and I hoped we would get stuff corrected. I looking to carry over all of the positives from the first game and build on them this week.

If we can stop the run then we can put another corner on the field. It’s going to be important to shut down the run early.

No Bijan Robinson to account for this year and our DL is healthy at this point whereas last year it was held together with duct tape and freshmen by mid year.

No idea what would’ve happened if Oatis hadn’t been game ready but it wouldn’t have been good.

Ryan Fowler’s show today has been playing a song by The Monkeys with the line, “And then I saw her face! I’m a believer.
This is in honor of Jeff Banks.
I wish they would play this or Hey Hey for the Monkeys, let go monkey around Saturday night when Texas comes out for warmups.

CFB Nerds talked about this. I’ll link it.

They said Texas had to open the playbook where Bama didn’t. He said he’s most concerned Texas kept trying to hit the deep pass and never hit a single one.

Jesus if this guy is half right we have something here…. I didn’t even see how Milroe played the out route and moved the corner. If he’s doing that kind of stuff he is reading defense.
