What are you even talking about? Neither was ever even close to universally defended. I'd argue WAY more people wanted both of them fired for over a year than defended them. You need to find a different example.

Byrne is a million times better than that joke of a “businessman” Bill Battle.

False. You're looking at people's reactions now and projecting that as what was said back in 2019 or 16 months ago.

O'Brien wasn't around in 2019, and Golding had been calling games for about half a season at that point. Yeah, they probably weren't catching much heat at that point.

I do. There is still a lot we don’t know and it was a traumatic event for several of our players and others. They defended Miller who was cleared, they cut ties with Miles, and cooperated with all officials openly.

Because he press releases weren’t spot on he failed? I don’t think so.

I agree with that but for instance he obviously didn’t know or have any control over miles friend getting in a shootout.

But at the end of the day the buck stops with him and I’m sure he will accept the responsibility like Saban does for short falls.

No doubt. You’re right.

I'm not too pleased with the state of the department from a PR front right now. Outside looking in it's a shitshow.

The Miller situation and being so ill-prepared to handle it, our compliance director being arrested for domestic violence, and the pending baseball scandal. It's likely just a bad run, but ultimately Byrne is the man in charge. Athletics should be a reason the University is celebrated, not a reason it is mocked. But here we are.

ETA: I also have a bad taste in my mouth about my football ticket prices increasing a startling amount and having to fork over $20-$25 for shitty concessions at Coleman.

You can't control what happens in the world; all you can control is how you react to it.

The Bohannon firing today is the most positive reaction Byrne could have to the situation. It's not a good look that Bohannon was Byrne's first "big" hire for the University, but that was five years ago.

I don't know what sort of internal punishment was handed down for Golding's drinking issues, but it's concerning that it happened at least twice.

The biggest failing isn't Byrne's, per se; it belongs to the PR department. Not giving Oats a heads-up before his press conference was bad enough, but allowing the "pat-down" game intro for Miller afterward was even worse. I know it wasn't supposed to look like a weapons frisk, but that's exactly how it came across. "Tone-deaf" is the kindest assessment one could make of that ridiculousness.

Chewing butts on the PR team would be the best option for Byrne right now. We wouldn't see that happening, of course.

This is a major REACH. Clearly, these individuals are making bad decisions on their own.

Greg Byrne & coaches can do whatever possible to teach all individuals to make better decisions but it's still up too that individual to do so...that goes for Greg Byrne, trustees, board members, coaches, staff, and players.

There's nobody perfect but I think we have the best AD in the country PERIOD.

I also think that our PR team has gotten better since the basketball situation where they was a little flat footed so to speak.

It's LIFE...Road bumps & detours happen but that doesn't define what our AD has done thru the years. He hasn't had a bad couple of months but individuals associated with Alabama has.

Its the Alabama way..

Hell, twenty years ago this week we were having to fire Mike Price, si it could be worse.

In my 60 years, the University has stepped on its own dick many times.

I went to every home basketball game this year except for 3 of them. I bought concessions at Coleman once. I got a lukewarm hamburger and bottle of water. I had to grab the hamburger out of the tray thing myself and the kid working got my water out of a cooler next to him. Total was $22 then they asked me for a fricking tip. An absurd operation.

Went to games in Birmingham, Starkville, Columbia, Knoxville and Louisville and all were better quality food and less expensive. When it comes to concession prices and quality Byrne and the AD can frick right off.

I don't even bother with concessions in BDS.

swimming coach seems to be doing ok...

You serious? The associate head coach just left us for SMU. Not a step up in any way conceivable. Our women fell 10 spots this season, and we're still clinging onto swimmers Margo didn't recruit. Men aren't doing much better, actually finished 5 places lower than last year. If it weren't for covid year super seniors, neither squad would've finished top 25 at NCAAs. The program is trending dramatically worse than 2 years ago when Byrne hired Margo. That's not even getting into the previous hire Byrne made, Coley Stickels. Dude quit 2/3 of the way through the 2020 season, to train the person Byrne hired next It's complete bullshite Byrne has managed to undo damn near everything Dennis and Jonty built.

I'll totally concede that is OK for most of our fanbase

The athletic department achieved great success in the years following Saban’s hiring. I’m feeling hubris has set in, in many sports, as Saban is the only one who can handle success without complacency.

I think Byrne can right the ship, but it will involve some major moves, fund raising and buy in.

And then I see this trailer for the “rush” video…WTH is going on??? I’ve been sick for a week and all hell breaks loose!

What is a person suppose to do about individual dumbass people? I do agree he needs to do a better Pr job though
