any thoughts on SEC/LSU ?

I thought it would be discussed by now on here. You cant pay me enough to visit the cesspool over on the rant.
Does anyone think the conference has more dirt on them? Whats the likely ending?
Do they have a backdoor deal with another team to replace them?
Senators, governor, lawyers , wannabe lawyers are going nuts here in Louisiana. They think they will get a Notre Dame type of deal if they go independent.

Reposting my thoughts on that from tRant:
ND has national appeal as the big catholic football school. LSU’s brand doesn’t have that even if Louisiana diaspora is a thing because anyone with ability gets the hell out of that shithole.

The likely ending is some sort of suspension for Kiffin or a fine. If they had rostered the players then LSU would’ve been expelled.

Unless there’s something we don’t know about yet, I don’t fully understand wanting to expel them.
I also think Kiffin will use this to fuel his team. As he should.

This has way more to do with it than the players themselves. Landry is way too personally involved with LSU football and if the entire state government is going to lawfare every call that goes against them, it's easier to just not deal with it.
My personal view is that it's about fn time someone starts reining-in the cfb anarchy... if it has to be the SEC and if LSU has to be the victim, so be it. I don't want it to happen and ultimately they will back down, but the SEC would eventually get over it in a way LSU would not.

I think this is about a perceived mindset at LSU that they arent fully subject to SEC rules and will use lawfare to intervene if needed.
The SEC is at a critical point and needs to assert its ability to reign in what Ole Miss did with Chambliss, the Bediako situation and then Lane not only incited these kids to sue the NCAA but made a huge mockery of the NCAA and Sankey in particular in local court after they told them to back off.
My guess is they are going to punish Kiffin to show they can. If LSU accepts it this will go away.
If LSU countersues or their governor who many think is calling the shots intervenes I really believe at that point the SEC may boot them because itll be that or accept that every school can use their local courts to do whatever the hell they want.

This is all essentially going to amount to a final warning to LSU.
Follow the rules we set going forward without trying to circumvent them, because the rest of the league isn't going to put up with the shenanigans.

I just can't believe the SEC is going to all this trouble if there isn't something else that the public doesn't know about.
As far as LSU fans thinking going independent is the answer, there's no guarantee you get the same CFP deal as ND. Without that preferred treatment, you're just another team with a Group of 5 schedule trying to look impressive enough to get in.

This is an existential issue. Why does the SEC even exist if members can do whatever they want and a school sues itself out of following rules?

It would cripple the athletic department within a decade and the university itself wouldn't be far behind. They might get a TV deal with the CW, because the big 3 aren't going to sign LSU to an exclusive deal to watch them play UTSA and UAB and LaTech every week

It’s being reported that 15 outta 16 conference presidents and chancellors have all agreed with the conference that there is a lack of institutional control at lsu and agreed to kick them to the curb if it comes to that.
I’ve never liked Sankey, but he’s smart enough to know not to take lsu on by himself. He’s got the whole conference backing him on this if the reports are true and if that’s the case lsu is in check right now.

This would never be us. Our administration and big wigs are too buttoned up and by the book to have some attorney embarrass us
And our politicians, while EXTREMELY stupid, are too divided between the two schools and focused on embarrassing themselves and us in other ways than college football pissing matches.
LSU is such a state wide cult that if they could recruit a bunch of Amazon women to play offensive line their politicians would 180 on that issue too. Weird arse state with nothing going on upstairs.

At the end of the day the governor and the AG have gotten involved, so the conference effectively just did what they had to.
LSU adding two players means they've folded, but the SEC will keep the lawsuit alive simply to reinforce their ability under their own association guidelines. Once that's confirmed they'll have it in their pocket if the state tries some frickery again.

I’m absolutely sick of the lawsuits, the local judges, seventh year seniors, schools playing dirty with NIL and tampering and if this is the line in the sand the SEC draws to stop the nonsense then I support it. LSU happened to be the school that went all in: Kiffin, private equity, tampering, lawsuits, etc. so zero sympathy here for them.

It's beyond that now. The dispute between the SEC and LSU is no longer about those players. It's about the rest of the SEC believing both that LSU has not been at all forthcoming regarding their actions or the actions of their employees (Kiffin) and that the government of Louisiana is running the athletics department of a member institution.

And they elect their own to pull the levers of power. They are significantly miscalculating their brand recognition, national standing, and the extent to which a voluntary association like an athletics conference is built on trust. In typical Louisiana style they're acting like a chicken playing chess - knocking over the pieces, shitting on the board, and strutting around like the won.
