This Ump Was Not Gonna Have This Dallas Baptist Batter Admire His Grand Slam
© Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports
Dallas Baptist took on Oregon State in the final game of their NCAA Tournament regional at Fort Worth on Monday. Dallas Baptist's Andrew Benefield erased a 5-2 Oregon State lead by crushing a blistering grand slam deep to left field, which the umpire was not going to let him admire...

Let him pimp his HR. It’s a grand slam in the tournament not a solo shot in the first inning of a midweek game. May have been more show boating than I like but if the pitcher doesn’t like throw a better pitch.

It's one thing to take a few steps and watch your ball but this kid was basically crow hopping backwards

Ump did this because of the HR in the Tennessee game and I think one of the Ole Miss HRs… this was getting out of control over the weekend

Ump has a small penis.

If it's celebration, it's all good. If you taunt or mock the other team though, I understand the ump getting involved. He's wanting to keep the game under control and prevent retaliation and all that mess. I wasn't watching the game, so don't know which this was. Hard to tell if he's looking at the pitcher just from the clip.

I agree with the ump. This is a baseball game, not a clown show or circus. I'm like the old saying...."act like you've been there before." If the pitchers start hitting these ego maniac's it will slow down. I'm not for head hunting, absolutely not, however planting one in the ribs or backside should work!

Maybe he's never been there before douchebag. That literally may have been his first grand slam to put his team on top.

That's the problem. Noone crazy enough to give em the chin music. That's literally the only thing that will keep these clowns in check is head hunting

4Lyfe, I do not think you fully comprehend the message in that saying... Even if you have never been there before, act like you have. That is kinda the point.

There was a time when men acted like men and not punks. But that was many years ago.

Yes that was years ago. Seems like for the most part respect and appreciation are no longer around.

Dick move by the ump tbh. Kid wasn’t out of line in the least. It was a big moment and he was innocently enjoying it for 2 seconds.

I have no issue with admiring a home run shot...

it appears, though, that the ump was reacting to the guy jawing the pitcher, not for watching his homer. If the ump was running the kid for jawing, he was right. If he was running him for admiring his hit a bit too long, then no.

This is the kind of horseshite that kicks off bench clearing brawls. Not ideal in the final elimination game of an NCAA regional. Staring at a HR is one thing (see: Charlie Welch) and I have no issues with it. But watching it fly as you jaw at the guy you just destroyed is asking for it. And I'm pro-celebration.

@denvertiger But I bet you loved the LSU baseball players in the Bregman days when they were making hand motions around their head like are you coo coo for throwing that pitch to me.

I think it's ok to move a guy along if he's acting like a fricktard. And that guy pretty much fit the bill.

Well you can't dance backwards around the bases, so I agree with the Ump

Actually, I would assume that if you stay within the base path and tag each bag on the way around you could totally dance backwards around the bases. I'd like to see a kid try it and see what happens one day. :)

Jim Piersall did. On his 100th MLB HR. "Piersall hit the 100th home run of his career, off Phillies pitcher Dallas Green. He ran around the bases in the correct order but facing backwards as he made the circuit." LINK
