Now that the decade is just about over for LSU Football, where do the Tigers rank in the Best Teams of the Decade ranking?

If you were going to come up with the top teams, I think the only teams that enter the discussion are the following (not in any particular order):

Southern Cal
Texas
Oklahoma
Florida
LSU
Ohio State

It is really hard to rank anyone right now since two of the teams above have a chance to win the title this year. I think No. 1 goes to Texas if they win the BCS title. Otherwise, Florida should get the nod if they can get to the title game and win. If both Texas and Florida make it to the BCS title game, I think both would have a legitimate claim to the top two spots for best team of the decade. After that, it could be a toss up...consider these facts:

BCS Title Game Records:
Florida: 2-0
LSU: 2-0
Oklahoma: 1-3
Ohio State: 1-2
USC: 1-1
Texas: 1-0

Note: USC won AP title in 2003.

Overall Record this decade:
1. Texas: 109-18 (.858)
2. Oklahoma: 109-24 (.820)
3. Ohio State: 101-25 (.802)
3. USC: 101-25 (.802)
5. Florida: 99-29 (.773)
6. LSU: 99-30 (.767)

Overall Bowl Record this decade:
1. LSU: 7-2
2. Texas: 7-2
3. USC: 6-2
4. Florida: 4-5
5. Ohio State: 4-5
6. Oklahoma: 4-5

BCS Bowl Record this decade (ordered by number of wins):
1. USC: 6-1
2. LSU: 4-0
3. Texas: 3-0
4. Florida: 3-1
5. Ohio State: 3-3
6. Oklahoma: 2-5

If you had to rank these six teams, how would you rank them?

Honestly, I want to put LSU ahead of USC. USC's BCS bowl wins, outside of the NCG are a joke. They have played the runner-up in the Big 10 a few times, which is an absolute joke.

UF Meyer adapts to the talent, best college coach.
UT Consistently good.
LSU (tie) 2008's melt-down really hurt.
USC (tie) Good record, but then again it's PAC10.
OU Big the 1st 5 years, since then?
tOSU Big game melt-downs outside of B10.

NOT COUNTING 2009 AT ALL:

1. USC
2. UF
3. LSU
4. Oklahoma
5. Ohio State
6. Texas

I'll evaluate this decade with 2009 after the bowls.

I don't see how anyone is ranking Texas ahead of Oklahoma. I don't see how anyone's ranking Texas ahead of any of these potential teams, yet.

If they win the NC, that changes things.

The "sec sucks"? Honestly?

If those stats show anything its that the SEC is tougher than any other conference as a whole. Look at the OOC stats for LSU and UF and throw that trash at me.

I think the last two years have knocked LSU out of that discussion. Florida, or Texas if they win the NC this year, is on top pretty clearly, with the other one in second spot. USC is close behind, with Oklahoma likely next. LSU and Ohio State vie for the next spot, with OSU's consistency battling our higher highs/lower lows for which is better.

Using Excel, a few more variables, and way too much of my employer's time at the 9 year mark, LSU has a slight nudge out in front as #1.

Using this un-weighted ranking, even if Florida wins the SEC and BCSNCG my model predicts that UT slides into #1 and LSU slides back to #3; however, my model doesn't put any weight on the fact that winning three of the BCSNCGs would be an awesome feat if Florida can get it done.

LSUDenver - good work.

If I were you I would figure more regular season like wins and losses than just BCS. Of course, that's important but it's like 6/1. For example, Florida, and LSU for that matter are not really punished for their really average years.

Maybe use the average ranking of the decade, most wins over ranked teams, not sure what else.

LSU until UF wins this year.
Funny how our own fans shite on 2NC and 4&0 in BCS games.
I don't.

Why USC...it can be argued that they were the best team in the nation twice when they were not invited to the Natl Champ game
Why not FL...beginning of the decade not so good...without Tebow, they don't make this list!
Why not LSU...lack of QB depth after winning Natl Championships

have to go with USC at No. 1. One and a half national titles (1 crystal, 1 AP), almost beat Texas for another. Owning the PAC 10, Rose Bowls and most other bowls.

1. USC
From 2000 to 2009 the Trojans were the most consistent winners.

2. LSU
Two BCS titles, undefeated in BCS bowls and solid every year.

3. Texas
The one BCS title and a dominant team in their conference.

4. Florida
Yes two BCS titles, but they were very average during the Zook years.

5. Oklahoma
Always fields a solid team and beat up on Texas the first half of the decade. Can't get it done in big games though.

6. Ohio State
Guess I have to include them on the list, but come on, everyone knows they're garbage.

moral victories dont count and big game losses dont count... we made it to the national championship by chance a couple times so getting there and loosing 3 and four times doesnt means shite so id put usc ohio and oklahoma under lsu and uf

You cant be serious in listing USC who plays no one and then goes to a bowl and plays no body ahead of LSU or FLA who kick each others asses all year long. Bad Joke. Same for any other non sec school. Okla and TX and USC couldnt sniff a Natl Champ if they played in SEC. SEC is down is BS the media is trying to feed you. Ask Clemson how they feel this week.

The good and bad thing about this kind of debate is that everyone's criteria is different.

That said, If Texas wins the MNC then it's Texas. If Florida wins then it's Florida. If Bama or another win it's USC.

IMHO, 3 NCs trumps the consistency demonstrated by Texas and USC, and USC to a greater extent. I hate more than anything but 02-08 they have been lights out and finished in the top 5 and went almost 2 years without losing -- PAC 10 or not I think you're fooling yourself if you don't consider them a legit top 5 team in any of those 7 years.

Texas has also been extremely consistent, and that is what hurts LSU and that's why I'd put them at 4.

4. LSU. LSU had, I would say 3 GREAT seasons (03,06,07) where they did/could have won the NC and 3 damn good years (01, 04, 05). The UGA thottling really damaged 05. 2002 and 20009 are probably similar enough and 2000 and 2008 were mediocre for the most part, but still winning years.

5. Ohio State -- extremely consistent and won a NC.

6. Oklahoma -- awful big game performances, 1 NC but had some serious down years.

I can be convinced otherwise and maybe need to take a closer look at Texas and Florida I need to get some numebers together and get back to this.
