The opening band for Cowboy Mouth that night wasn’t bad. It was none other than Maroon 5, who was largely unknown at the time.
I was there also. The varsity used to snag some excellent acts, many of them nationally known who would book a weekday gig between larger venues on the weekends. I miss those days.

re: Can someone explain how weed is still illegal here (La) but the smell is everywhere?
Posted by LSUTANGERINE on 11/11/25 at 12:01 pm to Will Cover
Same here. My windows are rolled up and my AC is on recirculate and everyone around me has their windows rolled up. I can still smell it.
The smell is 10 times worse and 10 times stronger than it was back in the day. I hate it.

We would be naïve to think that a school would want the police involved.

Yes. The school board overruled the school on keeping her out. But only after the attorney‘s ripped them to shreds.

LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. (WAFB) - A 13-year-old student was expelled from Sixth Ward Middle School after hitting a male classmate who she said created and shared a deepfake pornographic image of her, according to her family’s lawyers.
The family, now represented by Baton Rouge Attorneys Greg Miller and Morgyn Young, plans to file a federal lawsuit against the Lafourche Parish School District. The incident occurred in August when the school year began. The girl’s father, Joseph Daniels, and the attorneys say the young girl endured bullying after the deepfake nude image was circulated throughout the school.
quote:
Attorney Miller said school leaders at Sixth Ward Middle School failed to address the girl’s complaints about the circulating image, despite her reporting it to school leaders. “The school board’s actions in this case are reprehensible,” Miller said. “My client’s daughter was begging them all day to put a stop to this. Not only did they not put a stop to it, they put [her] on the bus with the perpetrator.”
When the girl saw the photo being shared again on the school bus, she hit the boy she said was responsible for creating it. She was later expelled from the school.
Daniels said he disagreed with his daughter’s physical response but felt the punishment was excessive.
quote:
During the meeting, speakers described how the girl tried to contact her father during the day but was told by school officials that parents did not need to be involved.
The board voted to allow the student to return to school on probation, but the expulsion remains on her record, according to her father.

Link has video. Yes, Liz does say “she clocked a boy”.
There’s a video also on YouTube of the school board meeting where the attorneys ripped them to shreds, especially the second attorney.

Yes. I don’t get it. Especially people that spend upwards of $50,000 of full mouth dental implants who choose halogen white for their color. I mean, you pretty much have the option to choose whatever color you want. At least try and make them look real.

As I understand it, the Democrats got the Republicans to agree to vote on ACA subsidies. Looks like a strategy to get them on record prior to the midterms next year.
re: High School student in Nashville pepper sprayed her teacher after he took her phone
Posted by LSUTANGERINE on 11/9/25 at 7:38 pm to hawgfaninc
Did she really think they were going to give her the phone back after she said “can I get my phone…I need my phone“? Actually, probably yes.
Glad to see what she was arrested for assault and obviously will be charged as an adult.
And it’s terrible that all of those teachers were just standing around, knowing if they put their hands on that adult student, they would likely get fired.
Would love to see the video of her getting arrested

I’m sure he’s done something that is prohibited a couple times in school and a teacher chastised him.

I don’t know. But take that crap elsewhere or ask someone else, or start a new topic.
To answer your original question much earlier in this thread to me and others, at the end of the day, no one (but you) is discussing a kid innocently fishing at a pond (even if it turns out to be private)because:
1) he handled himself politely and said he would leave, 2) the adult not only was an a-hole, but made a threat to kill him if he returned. Given this situation, I’m sure number two takes precedence…by a mile.

No need to. As I previously said:

Austin Parks and Recreation, specifically Onion Creek Metropolitan Park.
That is where the public pond is located. And it is also not far from the Onion Creek golf course.
I removed some stuff because:
I can see that there are two ponds, one being private (HOA) and one being public and are close to each other. Do you know which specific pond he was in? If it’s Sullivan Pond, it is public. If it is another, it’s probably the private one. The news said Sullivan Pond. That’s really what it boils down to in this public versus private pond debate as it pertains to the kid who was innocently fishing.

False premise. We don't know for sure that it is not public. Either way, probably the first time. Most people are not Karen's or Brad's.
By the way, reportedely the adult asked him of had a license, not if he lived there.

Onion Creek is also an area near where this occurred.

Yes, the pond at Sullivan Park in Austin, Texas, is a public pond.
The park itself is a City of Austin property, and the pond does not belong to any Homeowners Association or private club. As public water within a city park, it is generally accessible to the public, though general city park and state fishing regulations (if applicable) must be followed.
quote:
Here are the details on its status as a public pond:
Public ownership: Sullivan Park is an official city park managed by the Austin Parks and Recreation Department. As part of this city property, the pond and its surrounding area are accessible to the public, unlike a pond on private land or within a homeowners' association.
Recreational use: Being a public pond means it is intended for general public use and recreation. This includes activities like fishing, as indicated by a recent incident in the news concerning a teenager fishing at the pond without issue.
Subject to regulations: As with any public park, use of the pond is subject to city and state regulations. For example, individuals who wish to fish there must adhere to statefishing license requirements.
Not a private amenity: Public ponds differ from amenities found at private residences, apartment complexes, or private communities. For example, a search for "Sullivan" apartments in Austin shows amenities like pools and dog parks, but these are exclusive to residents. The pond at Sullivan Park is open to all citizens.
Public infrastructure: The pond also serves as public stormwater infrastructure, which is maintained by the City of Austin Watershed Protection Department.
quote:
Yes, Sullivan Park is located near the Onion Creek area of Austin. The park's pond is part of this community, and news reports have explicitly mentioned the location as "Sullivan Park near Onion Creek". Onion Creek is both a neighborhood and a creek that runs through the area
Are there two Sullivan's ponds near the Onion Creek area?
