James Lang-USA TODAY Sports
The NCAA announced two big changes on Wednesday that are coming to College Football.

First, they announced that FBS Football Conferences will no longer need divisions and can determine their championship game participants.

Later on, they announced that they have removed the 25-player initial counter rule for the next two years meaning FBS football coaches can now sign as many players as they want, as long as they stay at or under 85 total scholarships.

This helps who, and how? Now Saban can sign 40 high schools players, let the 15 that underperform transfer out, then do it all over again?

He’ll tell you what an awful idea it is. Then proceed to show you why you should have listened to him and not done it.

It helps a ton of kids in the portal that got bad advice and had nowhere to go

I don't like what "determine their conference game participants" could mean.

Lol wow. Are they purposely trying to ruin the sport?

So let's assume if Auburn , by some miracle, runs the table and faces Alabama in the last game of the year. They win. They could still play Alabama in the SEC championship the next week ? And a 2 loss Florida or Georgia team would have to sit it out and deal with it ?

Two best teams play for the championship. It’s that simple.

I doubt SEC changes the format until '25 when UT and OU join.

So they created a problem with the transfer portal and their solution is a temporary patch job? Wow

The No division rule must be so the SEC can switch to pods

Pods are just more divisions. Swing and miss on that one.

The 85 limits per year and no 25nlimit was how it use to be. Bama was better than anyone processing players.

First, they announced that FBS Football Conferences will no longer need divisions and can determine their championship game participants. Good. No 3 loss teams in the SECCG. Now the rest of the nation needs to follow.

All schools are low on numbers because of transfer portal.

A good number of them remain in purgatory and don’t get picked up. When you test the waters, new freshmen are right behind you to take your place.

NIL and Transfer Portal are out of control but this is the focus of the NCAA. Not surprised. The NCAA is routinely 2-5 years late responding to problems and rarely, even after all of that time, get the correct answer. Is the NCAA part of the Fed Gov't ?

I just think of all the times Bama didn’t win the SEC West, but won a National Championship.

When and how will LSU football know how many scholarships the Tigers can hand out? What if they have fewer than 25 openings to reach the 85 scholarship limit?

This is huge right, like we can now compete with bama in scholarship department when we had all these transfers, granted it’s cool giving practice team guys scholarships but much rather take a transfer or another 4star or project 3 star with potential.

Both of these changes do nothing but help Bama. The rare times they do get knocked off the West pedestal will be for nothing unless UGA or Florida is at peak condition. The problem with the no signing limit is also the Bama bandwagon phenomenon. How many kids already take different color shirts just to get a seat at the table of the Bama program, when there are PLENTY of other programs that will develop them. Good thing is the first one only applies over the next 3 years, as we'll be going to pods in 2025 so there will be no divisional nonsense.

So what is the reasoning for the change?

saban didn't like how things were going so they had to change the rules.

frick the NCAA. Leave them behind, make the CFP committee the new authority in college football and let Sankey run it.

Terrible idea. Sure the NCAA sucks but do you really want the people who control who goes to the championship to control the entire thing?
user avatar
arcalades23 months
so you mean saban would be running things? you dont seem very bright. the committee is worse than the ncaa. it's basically the equivalent of a senate super committee, which is awful
