Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports
LSU head coach Ed Orgeron joined ESPN's 104.5 FM’s "Off The Bench" show on Thursday and said that senior Nick Brossette will “start off” No. 1 in the Tigers running back group, followed by sophomore Clyde Edwards-Helaire, junior Lanard Fournette, and true freshman Tae Provens.

The Tigers begin spring practice this Sunday, March 11.

He's going to surprise a lot of people IMO. I hope he flourishes.

Hmmm... NB: 46 carries, 6.7 yds per carry. Hmm...

I want to be optimistic but on paper this looks like the weakest group of rbs we've had in the last 20 years. Hope they prove me wrong

I think Nick is a safe bet. He's not Guice, but we won't be seeing a first-snap fumble like against Troy last year. He'll be the experienced one, and it should help break in Helaire more comfortably. I bet through the year, we see a more even split between the two.

Brossette is a talented RB that just needs to NOT fumble

He also needs to keep working on his pad level, but butterfingers are an unforgivable sin at this level.

he said "start off". Just like they said Brennan would get the first snaps in the spring. Things can change between now and september.

every coach on every level.

No. Pretty much every coach on every level says there will be a competition when the starter isn’t returning

Glad O can call him by his name now and not "the third string back"

Nick either just turned 93, or learned how to shrimp.

Guys are acting like he is a walk on. He was the #19 running back in the country coming out of high school. He has played behind 2 LSU greats and has been coached by some of the best in the biz. Give the guy a chance.

Just haven't seen it at all. Not even on the free carries he's had. All I can think of is Alfred Blue after the injury and Kenny Hilliard as a senior. Not trying to be mean, but Brossette is mediocre.

All people want to talk about is when he fumbled early in the year. They must’ve quit watching them, because when he started carrying the ball again at the end of the year he was averaging about 6yac not to mention he had a big 4th down carry and got the first

He isn't on campus so I'm sure he will be last on the pecking order when he gets here. He can play his way up for sure though.

This is just motivation for the others. I like NB, but if he is the best we've got, we're in trouble.

Nothing like a starting RB that has butter fingers and fumbles way too often

I don't understand why he felt compelled to name a starting running back in the first place - or any position for that matter. They haven't even played Spring ball yet. Anything can happen between now and then, and it doesn't set a good example for incoming freshmen who haven't even been given a chance yet. Amateurish.
