Gary Brockman for Indy Star / USA TODAY NETWORK
Four-star defensive end Joshua Mickens from Indianapolis, Ind., announced Monday that he has de-committed from LSU.

Mickens, a 6-5, 225-pound prospect from Lawrence Central High School, originally committed to LSU back in July. He becomes the second defensive lineman to recently depart LSU 2023 recruiting class as 4-star DE Darron Reed flipped to Auburn last week.

I read somewhere that his dad died and he got an offer close to home. If true, I can’t fault the kid.

losing a parent sucks. good luck kid

Exactly. Based off hearing that, I don't blame the kid at all for choosing to play closer to home. Wish nothing but the best for him and his family.

Read through this kids story last week. He recently lost his father and I think he is making a decision that he feels is best for his family. Good luck to this young man and his future.

I don't look at these kids as committed until they sign on the dotted line. Too many "after long talks with family and prayers I have decided to open my recruitment up. Please respect my decision."

Have to admit I just don’t follow recruiting anymore like I used to. Used to be fun

Still kind of cool when we land an obvious freak, but just the day to day…not interested in being that invested.

There needs to be a better term than "commitment" to describe a recruit stating they favor one school over all others at that point in time. Committing then decommitting just sounds weak and very misleading. It's goofy as well.

Maybe a promise ring or something. Ha

Our country is so weird. 16,17,18 year old kids deciding where they want to go play college football is the headline. I'm part of the problem by clicking, just observing our weird culture.

This is the main headline and we are playing in the SEC Championship this week? Disgraceful.

I mean scroll down you will see talk about the SEC championship. There is other shite going on with LSU too.

I would describe the performance against the aggies as disgraceful.

Too much hype by the media and fans on these commitments. They are just children remember.

This is shitty reporting. Find out the whole story before you post half of a story.

“de-commit” is such a silly word.

So sorry about his personal loss. Can’t say I wouldn’t do the same, based on his situation.

Good luck kid. Sorry about your personal loss of a family member. I believe you would have loved Baton Rouge.

He’s from Indiana. Very long trip to Baton Rouge for his family to watch him play. Maybe that was too much. Sucks to lose the kid so close to signing day. Could be hard to fill his shoes with equal talent.

I agree, until he signs with a team even further away.

I am not surprised by this since we had a plethora of DE/Edge commits early.

Why oh why give a decommitt a headline? If they don't want to be a real TIGER then ignore them.
