John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports
2016 bronze medal winning Team USA fencer Monica Aksamit didn't make it to Tokyo because the shutdown canceled the final qualifying matches so the scores were frozen and she was left on the outside looking in. How many of those other countries’ athletes post Insta pics from the US Virgin Islands? Entitled bitch is entitled.

Our country is so stupid. They canceled Olympic qualifying for COVID? Olympic athlete might be some of the fittest people in the world. COVID would be no more than the common cold for these people.

Covid IS basically a cold for healthy people under 65 years old. There are exceptions, of course, but Covid overwhelmingly kills old, unhealthy people.

Tax payer money did in fact fund some US Olympic governing bodies over the last year. About 12 Million was given in PPP funds.

So the gymnastics girl that is going to Auburn for gymnastics starting next year should be ineligible for receiving money as a High Schooler right? She won gold and will be getting paid. Just wondering how this works. Same with the track and field guys/gals that won

You can get around the rules by a trust that is only accessible after she finishes her college career maybe?

I never knew they were paid. I guess that must have started after they started letting the professionals in.

Dumb question, but are any taxpayer monnies used to fund these athletes? If so, why are US medal winners paid anything at all?

No, Olympic sports don’t receive a penny in funding from the government. Those payments are from the USOC and individual sport federations. They are not government institutions and are largely financed through sponsors.

US gives more in handouts in a year to the million illegal aliens strolling over the borders every month than Olympic medal winners. Sounds about right ...

Currently the US is paying almost 2.8 million total with over 100 medals. The other countries have less medals and are still paying less.

Some countries that don’t win much of invest in the Olympic training. But don’t let me get in the way of an entitled athlete whining.
