Im just glad 1980 is still considered modern era.

Herschel Walker has the craziest highlights.

I’d still give the nod to Bo but HW was amazing

Lot of old heads will argue against it but Joe most definitely has a say in being the greatest modern day (Last 25 years) player with those video game numbers he put up that season.

Most folks here have only seen Walker on highlight reels but to see him in action was unreal. Nobody that size had ever had that speed coupled with power. Walkers Heisman year, the UGA Qb threw for 800 yds. Walker was a known commodity, had already finsihed 2nd in the heisman and had no passing offense. He WAS the offense and still nobody could stop him. He literally carried a UGA team to 33-3 record and a national championship.

Solid post until the unfortunate use of "literally." No one has shoulders that strong. Not even Herschel Walker.

I hate to say it, but for one year Cam Newton was unstoppable.

That was a down year for the SEC overall though. South Carolina was the best in the East that year, and LSU and Bama had fairly young defenses.

So was Joe B.

Walker's shoulder popped out of joint early during the Sugar Bowl in 1980. They popped it back in and he finished out the game. He was amazing.

Doug Planchard. Nobody hoisted trophies like him.

No issues with that. Watching prime Herschel was like watching a grown man playing with children.

He’s not wrong. Loved HW.

HW is the best that I ever saw. Hugh Green was also amazing. Pittsburgh had a lot of talent in a ten year stretch from 74-83.

I forgot about Hugh Green. What a beast.

Bo Jackson.

Not a fan of the guy, but Tebow used slightly above average QB skills to be a monster. Can't deny that.

Herschel was the GOAT. Yes he was better that Bo Jackson in college. UGA had very little threat in passing game and defenses sold out to stop Herschel and still couldn’t do it.

All those 5 win teams were no match for #34.

AU had no passing threat either. Bo should always be mentioned in the same sentence as Herschel. This argument about who was better can go on forever, but let's not try to diminish the greatness of either one.

On defense I've got Derrick Thomas and Aaron Donald.

Herschel, Billy Simms, Earl Campbell, McFadden... you pretty much expected those guys to take it to the house every time they touched the ball.

Didn't mean to leave out Bo.

I agree Hershel is arguably the GOAT but a better debate would be in 1980 even the "modern era" anymore? It's obviously not the leather helmet days but the modern era has to be like BCS onward right? 1998+

So we are supposed to believe a radio talking head.

Believe what? It’s just his opinion.
