re: Amtrak announces the “Mardi Gras Line” will soon run between NOLA and Mobile

Bingo. I work for the railroad and see this as a waste of money. Amtrak trains create problems for dispatchers as freight traffic is the priority for many reasons. If given the choice, Amtrak will be put in the siding to wait for a freight train(s) to pass. Once you get hit by delays, the farther the distance, the more delays you can and most likely will accumulate. Even if you took freight traffic off the CSX line to Mobile, This schedule needs to be a lot more competitive in comparison to the drive time between both cities. Why would I pay more money for a longer trip?

Illinois has been shi$ for 50 years
The state as a hole went down a few years after NAFTA destroyed good paying foundries and factories in central and western Illinois. To make matters worse these smaller towns had to take in the wonderful people from the torn down projects of Chicago. Drugs and crime took over. Its sad due to the fact that these towns were once American as apple pie. Now you see fat tattooed women with 4 kids abound. A final nail in the coffin was Republican Taxpayers in generous numbers fled and still are feeling to the sunbelt, Indiana and Wisconsin.

No. Cook county and most of the collar counties secure pretty much anyone with a (D) after their last name to office. Started in the mid 0’s.

Chicago and the Chicago area does minus my sold red county of McHenry. There are even rumblings that central and southern Illinois of forming their own state. Now I get i that land can’t vote, but Illinois west of rt 47 and south of 1-80 is ruby red minus the counties with the state schools.

If it wasn't for cook county, he wouldn't be governor.
I moved to Illinois in 2004. At that time, the collar Chicago counties would cancel out Cook. The election was determined in the rural counties. Now...DuPage, Will, Lake are blue counties as well. Never would have guessed it but with immigration, brainwashed millennials and relocated project people from the hood, the collar counties have changed and then some. I am hoping to move back south and soon. This isn't the Illinois I loved from years past.

I wish but Cook County and now DuPage put in dems across the board.

Great points. I’ll add the confederacy was too big of an area to defend with a much smaller population. Richmond wasn’t the best location to have a capital as well. A lions share of the best trained troops had to be sent to the Old Dominion. Hence why New Orleans fell so early in the war. Good portion of the troops were gone.
