Steve Spurrier has chimed in on the Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher drama from the week...
Per DawgNation:..
quote:

“I don’t know why (Fisher) is mad at Saban," Spurrier said. "Did Saban say something that wasn’t true?”

“I don’t think Saban told any lies in there, so I don’t know what he was mad about. Since (Fisher) beat him last year, I guess he can talk now. He hasn’t beat much of anybody, but he beat Saban last year. But they haven’t won the division or anything since he’s been there.”

Fisher is mad that it was implied they cheated or could be implied or interpreted they cheated. no, they didn't cheat, but they did pony up a lot of money and got the #1 class Question for the old ball coach: did Jimbo say anything that was untrue?
user avatar

It is not implied. Saban said A&M bought their class, which they did. That is a violation. Paying players to sign is against the rules. I was a violation 50 years ago, last year and right now. That part has not changed. Players can't be given a NIL to sign with a school ( Yes we know it is happening ) But according to rules it is a violation.

This how stupid the NCAA is , every team is telling these 18 yr old prima donna's and their parents how much $$$$$ they'll if the sign with their school. Its become a sickening bidding war and will ruin what use to be great college football. The ncaa is the stupidity behind this.

A quitter and two cheaters enter a bar. Turns out it was Steve, Jimbo, and Nick.

This is a stupid comment. Three national title winners. All programs cheat. Spurrier did not quit, he got old.

Saban used Fisher to loosen the pockets of the Tide alumni to help keep up with A&M, Texas and other universities' alumni drowning in cash

OBC on bama recruiting, “ I never could get any players out of alabama, their scholarships must have just been worth more back then”
user avatar
TouchdownTony23 months
This is a statement from 2000. We dealt with that, suffered the "death penalty" which kept us from being competetive for 10 years. Has nothing to do with today. Dubose was a retarded shmuck who had no business being coach. If you walk around Bama's campus you see nothing that honors that A-hole. He bought players, we were decimated by the NCAA, nothing to do with today.

Did Saban say something that wasn't true? B-I-N-G-O I knew he would chime in somewhere and he is right. People are attacking Saban are the same people that said NIL needed to be controlled.

Saban has been paying players forever. He shouldn't be speaking from a glass house even if it's true. He's really only doing this so Bama boosters can pay up just like TAMU's.

listening to jimbo's press conference all but confirmed they paid the players. He kept bringing up the kids and their families. So its ok if you paid the families? which it seems like they did. Still not right but i guess in Jimbo's head its ok then.

This is what everyone wanted for years, why is everyone complaining now? They wanted the players to get paid, now they get paid. It’s almost like this wasn’t thought through thoroughly.

Spurrier and Saban and Lane vs. Jimbo and Deion? Yeah, I think I know whose winning that one.
user avatar
arcalades23 months
if it's money then i'd go with Jimbo. A1M has far more money than anything associated with Spurrier and Saban.

Spurrier was right except for ignoring the part where Saban claimed they "didn't buy a single one".
