If, or rather, when the Auburn job becomes available would Lane Kiffin leave Ole Miss for the gig? Paul Finebaum shares his thoughts...
quote:

"Yes. Yes, I do, again, without knowing how the season plays out, I think (Kiffin) is still restless,” Finebaum told Connor O’Gara. “I don’t base that on Lane Kiffin and I having late-night conversations because I don’t know any more about his future than you do. I’m just offering an opinion and an observation. The thing about Auburn that I think Lane Kiffin is thinking is it would be so much easier to recruit there than where I’m at, even though he’s doing well. That’s self-evident. But he’s having to scramble to stay alive at Ole Miss whereas at Auburn, there’s a much stronger recruiting base from a booster standpoint and a financial standpoint."

If joey was smart he would wait for Saban to retire then make a move.

Wait till Ol' Nick hands his buddy the keys to the Lambo in a couple years. God help us if Lane ever truly grows up and has that kinda talent around him.

Dude needs to sit still for a while as he moves around way to much chasing who knows what. At this point, show he can do consistently well at OM and wait for the bama position to open up or maybe UTX if that ends up opening prior. Those I think would be ones that satisfy his long term goals. I would say OU, but don't know if Norman is a town that will feed Joey Freshwater enough. At least OM does satisfies JF for the time being.

Auburn is certainly a stronger and more tradtion rich program. I am sure Lane would strongly consider an offer. One thing is for sure, the current Auburn coach will not make it to the end of the season.

Auburn would pay more but then he'd have to deal with meddling boosters. Mississippi has more talent than Alabama and its easier to go against MSU than Saban. I dont think Auburn job is any better at this time.

There’s no pressure to win a NC or even make the playoffs at Ole Miss. They’re happy to be ranked, maybe go to the Sugar Bowl every so often when it’s not in the playoff rotation.

Not sure Ms has more high school talent. The Alabama all stars routinely beat MS. Also, let's be real, Auburn is much bigger, higher profile job than Ole Miss would ever be. Whether he stays at Ole miss or is at Auburn he still has to go against Saban.

Auburn is a shite-show. Always has been, always will be. Only reason a sane person would take the job is to make bank and ride off into the sunset.

Many would take a "shite-show" if they could play in a couple of national championship games and win one in the last 15 years.

Which would he be driving on his way there? On Hollywood BLVD or Sunset BLVD?

Stay at Ole Miss until that TAMU job opens up. Actually, don't. Kiffin at TAMU with that kind of money would be a nightmare. Saban is out in 5 years, we don't need another giant in the SEC. LSU will take on that role.

Losers lose, it's what they do. And A&M are losers. Doesn't matter how much money or who's coaching, you can't change that.

If i were him i would stay at Ole Miss, easier to win at Ole Miss than Auburn but thats just my thinking or the one team i would jump ship to if i were Lane Kiffin where u got boosters unlimited and a good shot at sec championship, more star power athletes than ole miss would be Tx aggies which is bigger contracts more money but i hope he stays at ole miss, his career would go down the drain at auburn like he did at southern Cal and would be back at square one.

Easier to win at Ole Miss??? Are you on crack. Last 15 years in conference play Ole Miss is 44-68 and Auburn is 61-56. Ole Miss has not won an SEC title since 1963.

Every team in the SEC is Bama's little bitch. The question is, if you are going to stay in the SEC what programs have the best chance to beat Bama 3 out of 10? Auburn is one of those.

Go fish. Auburn is the only SEC team that beats Bama on a semi-regular basis.

Yes. Yes he would. Of course he would. Auburn is a big time program who has won national championships and heisman trophies. I'd hate to see him go there, honestly. Wouldn't mind giving him a shot at Bama down the road.

Why wouldn't you mind seeing your team lose all over again after Kiffin replaces Saban?
user avatar
JackieTreehorn18 months
Yeah makes total sense. Much easier to recruit with Alabama and Georgia surrounding you for the best players. I hate that bald frick.

Sorry to burst your bubble. Kiffin has a better chance to win a championship at Texas A&M.
user avatar

I mean, what job would satisfy Kiffin? Prolly just USC or Bama.

That place is so toxic though. He will spend half of the time watching over his back. Auburn boosters are very difficult and any prominent coach with options will probably steer clear of that job.

Can't you say the same thing about Lane. I get he has rehabed his career. But come on Lane Kiffin comes with some baggage. Johnny Freshwater is probably still surfing the coeds. Rumors and Baggage will follow anywhere he goes. Especially at Auburn.
