Do defenses win championships in today's game?

Record setting all time defenses with 4 or 5 potential 1st Rd draft picks playing at the very top of their game? You definitely have a good shot. Not so much when they're not. See SECCG

BTW,I didn't hear an answer about those other QB's playing with a?record setting defense.

Were our defenses then as good as LSU 2019 or Alabama 2020

Are you talking about our '19 and '20 defenses compared to LSU and Alabama? Both of those offenses were 2 of the best in CFB history.

because that is what Lucius is most concerned abou

WTF does this have to do with anything? I don't judge QB's based on the Lucius definition.

I agree.

I was mainly focused on Stafford to be honest. And no. He did not have a record breaking defense. But, neither did Joe Burrow, Tua or Jalen Hurts.
In fact, it could be argued that they played with some of the worst defenses their schools put on the field for years....and theys till won. When Stafford was playing was his defense as good as those other three title winning QBs?

No. Look. If y'all are saying we have to have an elite QB to win, and Bennett had nothign to do with our title.....

I ask again. We had Stafford who will probably be in the HOF. Were his defenses as good as the 2019 or 2020 LSU and Alabama defense? I would argue yes.

Why is it so hard for people to admit that Bennett helped win the title?

Honest to goodness.

Can you say that Stetson Bennett helped us win a title? Just go on record.

Do what? Do you really want me to compare Stafford COLLEGE numbers to Mac Jones and Burrow?

Good Lord, talk about apples to bowling balls and both Bama and LSU had better skill players.Look at who got drafted.

So what your saying is it's normal for skill guys to correlate directly the output of all Qb's, and not just Stetson? Didn't most of y'all say if it weren't for his receivers being talented that stet couldn't have won? There's that contradiction again

People were also saying that we would have lost if Young had his good receivers to throw to. Strange

No. never said that. Do you think Mac Jones and Joe Burrow were surrounded by NFL type players and helped him put up their numbers?

Exactly. Look. Maybe I am not arguing with you at all. I am more arguing with the group that can't admit that Stetson Bennett had a lot to do with our win last Monday because:
1. He is surrounded by NFL level talent.

My point is so was Bryce Young. So, what was the difference?

2. He had an all world defense and they won it, not him.

My point is, before the game they said defenses could not win a title in today's game.

3. We have to have an elite talent at QB to win.

My point is.....nuh uh. Stetson Bennett is not elite and we still won.

4. We won in spite of Bennett and not because of him.

My point is, Stetson Bennett protected the ball, threw a perfectly placed ball to AD Mitchell 45 yards in the
air to put us ahead in the game permanently.

Did Stetson Bennett win the game single handedly? Absolutely not. What QB has? none. No one player ever wins a game.

So again. Maybe I am not arguing with you so much as the other guys? Only you can answer that.

I responded to your questions and points, so I will ask you again.

Did Steson Bennett help win the game last Monday night?

Beck is good as gone. Brock will likely leave unless Kirby fills him so full of shite about there still being a QB competition that he actually believes it (he shouldn't). Gunnar just got pushed back a year, so don't be surprised if he says frick it and leaves.

So we'll have Stet for next season and potentially nothing behind him. Which means in the '23 season, when our defense and newer offensive players are mature and experienced enough to dominate to challenge Bama for another chip, we'll likely have a true freshman or a transfer at starting QB instead of an experienced Beck, Brock, or Gunnar with a year of experience under their belt working within the UGA offense and with UGA players.

Big picture gets lost on people. It's kool-aid drinking to think this is a championship roster next season (regardless of QB). We should be building for B2B chips in 23 and 24.

Beck is still here. Brock and Gunner will fight for #2. Whoever loses the backup battle might leave.
This was indeed a championship roster in 2022. It might be in 2023.
Have some crow with your beer.

I'm too lazy to bump a thread made after the 2017 G Day game to show myself raving about how Bennett outplayed Eason and Fromm. Stetson's passing and elusive running was on display in the 4th quarter of that game.

My thought at that time was that we had a capable backup. I never dreamed that Stetson would turn into a world beating multiple champion.

We should have all been stoked Stetson was returning instead more than half the fan base groveled at the thought of him being QB1 this season. We are spoiled beyond recognition and this thread is proof.

You have to wonder if the fan sentiment played any role at all in the chip on Stet's shoulder. Would he have been the same player if he wasn't doubted? No idea. But he went to work over and over and has cemented himself as potentially the GOAT UGA player. Rock on, Stet. Rock on.
