They’re gonna tell Tate good bye so fast.

I agree, Fields will beat him out and do very well in a simplified offense.

Starting Fields over him could fracture the locker room
I hope I'm wrong but misusing Fields and his subsequent transfer might have fractured our locker room. I think OSU is in a much stronger position than we are.

misusing Fields

It's been verified that Fields had a bad attitude by the 2nd game of the season. If he was already bitter at that point, when Fromm was undoubtedly more prepared to run the offense, then Fields bears plenty of responsibility for how he was used. You don't just expect to walk in and immediately win signficant playing time, no matter how many stars by your name on some website. Bad attitudes have bad effects.

Anyone know whose choice it was not to redshirt him? He still could have gotten significant mop up duty in early season games and have been ready enough to take over if Fromm gets hurt. It was all just so forced.

The people crowing about how Fields will beat out Martell are the same people that talked about him beating out Fromm. He doesn’t even have a OSU playbook yet and these folks are crowning him the starter.........

Overtaking Fromm is considerably different than Martell.

ETA: Fromm has at least somewhat proven himself.

Ok. The point remains the same. Hell, I’ll contend that the fan base was half the problem with Fields. People said from day 1 that’s he is better than Fromm and it’s the end of the season and he clearly isn’t. He isn’t even in the same area as Fromm in respect to leadership, maturity, and his ability to read a defense.

That’s fair. I was one of the few people that I can recall who was very pro-redshirting Fields before he even got to Athens. I think Squatch was also on that same train.

Unfortunately our fans have a problem with expecting too much before we even see it. Part of it is being a hungry fan base, but we had too high of expectations for Fields and Eason before they even played at the collegiate level.

You are absolutely correct. The day we can stockpile like Alabama and point blank tell these kids it’s our way or no way will be a welcome sight. How long do you think Saban would have tolerated this nonsense?

Dude think about how amazing it would be if Martell beat him out and he had to sit again. Wont happen but man would that be karma.

Rig was on board with redshirting too. It enraged the Fields fanboys because he was going to go pro after 3 years even if he didn’t play.

Knowshon left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths, but QB is such a different position. Obviously good QBs can be ready right away, I'm not saying they can't, but there were so many proven QBs who redshirted or took a year off. If there's a talented guy in front of you, it can be very beneficial to sit and develop good habits.

We were in that position, but either because of promises made or something else, we felt like we couldn't let Fields sit a year. Unfortunately, we played things so poorly that we don't even get him for what will be his best years.

Redshirting for a 5th year is almost assinine. NFL players aren't hanging around. And how many potential 5th year players (non-NFL) will eat a roster spot that could go to a better recruit?

Redshirting to give a kid a specific focus... I understand it. Get bigger/faster. Learn the playbook. Grow up/Get ahead in the classroom. Some kids can be better served with that laser focus (isaiah wilson).

I prefer players who learn on the playing field. Learn by reviewing their own mistakes on film. But I understand that can also be a negative for a lot of kids (how many fans hate on the Bacarri Rambos or Matt Staffords because they were thrust on the field early and made their mistakes in big fashion in front of 94000).
