With the 4 game rule, he could have had valuable game reps and still have been 2nd string if needed.

Redshirting to give a kid a specific focus... I understand it. Get bigger/faster. Learn the playbook.

That's what we should have done with Fields. Redshirt to learn the playbook, and understand the position better.

People thought he was going to come in and be perfect right away because of his Elite 11 results.

The day we can stockpile like Alabama and point blank tell these kids it’s our way or no way will be a welcome sight. How long do you think Saban would have tolerated this nonsense?

We've been stockpiling it pretty damn well and are right there in recruiting with Bama. We've signed more 5 stars each of the last 3 years than Bama has. We beat them last year and are barely behind them this year only because they have more signees. We still have more 5 stars. I don't see talent as an issue. We should have beaten Bama the last two times we played them and instead found a way to blow it. We should have 2 SEC titles and a national title instead of a single SEC title. I only hope our window isn't closing quickly.

As for how long Saban would have tolerated this, I imagine he would have found a better way to utilize Fields than have him come in one play at a time to either run or hand off, and then be immediately pulled. It's not easy juggling talented QBs when there is only one ball and both want to play. Bama and Clemson have both suffered from losing QBs.

I also believe the Trevor Lawrence situation added friction to the situation. Fields and Lawrence were 1 2 for their high school years and competed in the same state. Fields had to believe he was just as good as Lawrence and if Clemson would start a true Freshman, Ga should too. Just my humble opinion.

Completely agree with that. We were ironically enough, punished for having a better QB than Kelly Bryant. I don't blame Fields for wanting to play either. We needed to manage his expectations better.

Well you're right, but others have also rightly pointed out Lawrence started far more games in high school in a passing offense. Fields didn't start until his junior season I believe, and he had to run around and create a lot because his team wasn't that great. So who knows.

Fields sister moved in this week per Rusty. Doesn’t sound like a racist environment to me

Clearly, she's too afraid for her physical safety to leave.

The people crowing about how Fields will beat out Martell are the same people that talked about him beating out Fromm. He doesn’t even have a OSU playbook yet and these folks are crowning him the starter.........

Are you retarded? I have never called for him to be ahead of Fromm. Fromm is proven and has shown his worth. Martell is a 5’11, noodle-armed, non-ginger version of Joe Cox who has proven nothing and endeared himself to no one at tOSU. You’re assuming the team likes him. None of us know that. But you’re silly if you think Fields went there without assurances from that staff. He’s a huge coup for them.

And again, there’s this.
