Yea…and why Jamie Newman royally fricked himself cause he believed all the hype about his draft stock without taking a snap at UGa

Calvin's speed and route running is on a whole other level than Riley's.

Yeah... I still feel like the stories that swirled around just made no sense. He had to have taken money/signed with an agent or something and gotten caught (making him ineligible) it seems. No other explanation makes sense to me... he had *good* not *great* film from Wake but *lost his starting job* and was about to have the opportunity to prove it wasn't just the combination of system and a fairly weak ACC. I can't logically square away that he'd willingly have sat without having something preventing him from playing (ie. ineligibility). If he did, that's possibly one of the dumbest football career decisions I've seen in recent memory.

Newman didnt put in the work.

Word was that he went awol during voluntary workouts (5 days at a minimum). Not good for any position. But especially at qb on a new team as a transfer. You gotta earn the teammates' respect. Newman didnt want it.

Fromm possibly cost himself a round 3 or round 4 signing bonus (some mocks had him late 2nd for the 2020 draft, but i dont have faith in those).

I dont know how much money difference is between 3rd round guarantees and 5th round. But i do know that a 3rd rounder is less likely to be practice squad.

The answer is literally in front of the text you quoted:

I'd be curious to see if we actually ended up pulling JTD in.

As in, if we didn't pull in JTD as a transfer (in this hypothetical world where Fromm stays) which is not a given, then who starts this season? Beck or Stetson?

JTD wasn't expecting to start 2020 anyway, it's still likely he would have come here even with Fromm returning. In my opinion.

Maybe... He always thought he was going to be able to play in 2020 (and he did), it was the medical staff who pumped the brakes on his recovery time table. It's all hypothetical at this point, but my point is you don't *know* for sure that JTD comes if Fromm stayed. He didn't hurt himself substantially in the draft and I'm not sure that 2020 goes any better with him than without him. Most likely scenario is that we lose twice to Bama even if we had beaten UF.

Fromm signed to Buffalo's practice squad.

He played well in the preseason and he is very intelligent. Could be a long term backup once Buffalo is comfortable with him replacing Trubisky as the primary backup.

If Fromm had stayed, we probably beat FL but still lose to Bama in the SECCG….but who knows? Fromm had fared pretty well against Bama in the past and our running game was still solid. I think under Monken he has a better year than 2019 because Monken schemes guys open…which we didn’t have during Fromms last year. This may have landed him a higher pick.

It gets more interesting when you consider that Newman and JT probably don’t come to UGA with a Sr starter so we’re looking at Beck starting this year with Brock as back up? I’d be good with that but like our chances with JT better at this point.

Just spit balling here.

Hindsight is 20/20. Fromm had to make the decision of whether he wanted to go pro in early January. Todd Monken was not hired until January 17. Fromm did not have the benefit of knowing who his offensive coordinator was going to be. He probably just knew he didn’t want to spend another year with James Coley.
