The Bills cut Jake Fromm, Jets cut Lawrence Cager, Chiefs cut Tyler Clark, Chargers cut Davin Bellamy, Bears cut Riley Ridley.

In other news, the 259th player drafted, Grant Stuard, (aka "Mr. Irrelevant") made the Tampa Bay roster as a LB.

Maybe, but I can't blame him either. 3rd OC in 3 years is not a good thing.

Did he though? Fromm kind of was what he was. Another year in Athens wasn't going to make him more mobile, grow a cannon for an arm, etc. He was such a controversial figure through no doing of his own because of all the people who wanted Fields to start over him that I'm not sure another year in Athens would have been healthy for him either.

If his intent was to go to the NFL and expect to win a starting job, yeah probably a mistake. If it was just to go get paid and fast forward to the next chapter of his life, I don't think it was that poor of a decision.

If he never works in the NFL again, even on a practice squad, what does he walk away with at this point?

He had to make something, workouts and preseason, etc. Right? I don't follow how the NFL works, clearly. It's not a troll question, I really am ignorant about the NFL.

Fromm had a $300+k signing bonus with $900k guaranteed. He probably made some above that this season. Getting cut could mean he goes to a practice squad at a lower rate. He can still make good money the next few years doing that.

James Coley’s offense in 2019 was pathetic. At the time Fromm had to make his decision, he had no idea if he would have to suffer through another season like that with Coley or if they would potentially change directions. It was probably the best decision for him to go pro at the time.

18 week season minimum and a chance to move up with an injury or covid. Not a bad deal.

I knew Tripp Chandler and his family personally. Use to throw him the ball around when I was in high school while he was a young pup. That dude turned down $400k a year in the nfl to start his life. These things happen….Fromm might use this to do the same. That life ain’t for everyone without the millions

College football is a grind too. It just depends on the person. There is no telling what he could have done if he stayed another year at UGA. He had a decent contract, but like most NFL contracts they don’t have a huge guarantee other than the top tier. Maybe he would’ve balled out his senior year and then got a much better guarantee or he could’ve gotten about the same or even less. As a quarterback, he has the possibility of hanging on with a number of teams and making good money without playing a down. He could also decide that life isn’t for him and Move on…

With signing bonuses, etc he made almost $1M since signing his rookie deal.

but like most NFL contracts they are written on rapidly dissolving toilet paper

FIFY

Agree with all of your comments there though. I disagree with the premise that he somehow majorly screwed himself by not returning for his senior season. He wasn't getting taller, faster, more athletic, and he'd already shown a pretty good command of the position mentally when it comes to pre-snap reads, etc... Maybe he ends up with a different team that doesn't have a QB put it all together like Allen did last season, but in all likelihood he's sitting in the same spot with a different team with his best chance being a backup or practice squad player. If it works for him great, if not, as you said, move on.

And him leaving early didn't do as much damage to UGA as a lot of people think. Last season with Fromm, I'm not confident in a different outcome for Bama, and frankly not confident in a different outcome against UF. It's possible, but I think even if one of those games goes differently and we end up in Atlanta, by the end of the season, Bama was stronger than what we were putting on the field. If Fromm's playing in 2020, I'd be curious to see if we actually ended up pulling JTD in. We might be starting Carson Beck in 2021 for better or worse. Lot of ripples to that change.
