Fat jokes and snark and little gifs are cute and everything, but I was wondering what other Dawg fans honestly think about having a new offensive coordinator.

Personally I was concerned up until the last month or so. The last 2 seasons we'd had 3 coaches who had been OCs at Power 5 schools and this year we'll only have one. That's not great.

But now I don't think that we will miss a beat. If it would've happened next season or whenever Fromm left, imo we'd have been in some fairly deep shite. But we've all heard the stories about how Fromm memorized the high school All American game playbook before the coaches and how Fromm has a pornographic memory. Truth be told Fromm could call a game all by himself at this point in his Georgia career. Fromm is the man. To this point I think that he's been the most under appreciated Georgia QB in my Dawg football memory. We will see what happens this year.

Also I think that Coley will be solid. Fans will still gripe just like they always do. "Whey'd we run a stupid draw play on 3rd and 15 when we were winning 28-3 in the second quarter." "Should've used so-and-so more in the offense that one game."

Coley was handcuffed by Al Golden when they were at Miami. Golden was a doofus and liked to play as slow as possible and huddle and fart around on offense. If you look at yards per play and big plays, Miami's offense was actually really good.

We shall see. Ready for the season to hurry up and get here!!!

All good stuff but I couldn’t help but laugh at “Fromm has a pornographic memory.”

That would be fine if all the OC did was "call a game". But a large part of their job happens before the game. Dissecting film of opponents during the offseason, when Fromm is out in Arkansas bagging turkeys. Analyzing tendencies, strengths and weaknesses and designing individual plays and game strategies to take advantage, while Fromm is catching bass in his special place. Effectively teaching young players what to do and scheming around their weaknesses and lack of experience, like Chaney did with Fromm.

According to an article this summer, Chaney watches film constantly during the offseason, dozens of hours a week. And his qb in Tennessee has been spending every free moment since January learning from Jim. I think we'll miss Chaney and our loss will be Tennessee's gain. Kirby has to learn how to manage both his players and his coaches better. Can't keep sending talent to rivals.

I think we will be just fine without Jim. Pass pass run. There’s his gameplan.

I'm pretty sure that is a violation unless you consider "free time" to be spring and fall camp.

Do they break down film with the weight room coaches? Because that wouldn't be a violation.

Some of these modern indoor practice facilities, with coaching offices overlooking the field, seem to be designed for just that purpose, IMO. I doubt the NCAA does much investigation of what goes on inside athletic complexes during the offseason.

This falls under voluntary activities.

Like this:

quote:

Before Guarantano flew with Pruitt and two teammates to Hoover for SEC Media Days, he met with Chaney for a film study. They do this often. Third downs were the topic du jour, but they’ve spent the offseason covering a lot of ground, including footwork, presnap reads, offensive protections, formations, coverages, defensive fronts and linebacker positioning.

quote:

The film sessions usually last 90 minutes to two hours. For one, Chaney made Guarantano feel welcome in the film sessions.

“Coach Chaney is a different guy,” Guarantano said. “He definitely liked the fact that I’m always up there, and he always invites me up there."

Chaney is a huge upgrade for Tennessee in terms of both offensive knowledge and coaching ability.

Blue Chip ol, blue Chip QB that made two 5* QBs quit, blue Chip WRs, and bad arse TB and TBU.

The question is, who wouldn't look like the world's greatest OC.

With talent like ours you just have to not over think/complicate things.

Coley will be mentioned for HC jobs in two seasons. This shite is simple when you recruit like we do.

Chaney sucks in the red zone. It was embarrassing in Jax.

He's going to do well. I get sick of the "member of the club" hires in CFB. New energy is a good thing.

Here's a great breakdown of some of Cooley's scheme (with film study) and analysis of how it could look at UGA

Thanks for the correction. They changed it a couple of years back with limited time by the coaching staff (2016?). If I remember, the timing was good with a new OC and DC.

I don't think he got to run his game plan at Georgia. Even a little. It's like none of our fans remember watching Tyler Bray throw it all over the yard. I'm sure we'll be fine with Coley but Chaney's offense at Georgia looked nothing like Chaney's offense anywhere else he's been.

Chaneys offense was different at every stop. That was his calling card. He could suit an offense to the personnel. It didn't require a specific identity.

He is a general contractor. He will build your house. Not his own. He will do the same for pruitt.

This is correct. I don't know if these critics are just trolling Tennessee or ignorant, but Chaney can run any offense you want and do it well. One of the most knowledgeable offensive minds in cfb. I'm sure he'll be unveiling plenty of well planned surprises for us in Knoxville and if the Dawgs walk in there feeling cocky it won't be pretty.

So are you honestly telling me you thought this when we hired him in '16?

Good for him. Not sure how it helps with football, but good for him.
