which is a total crapshoot by the way; admissions offices at these top public schools basically just throw a dart at a board at a certain point and it leads to really high achieving kids getting denied or wait listed.

This quote is the most truth I've read in a long time. I have a son there and is in his 3rd year. My daughter got wait listed. She has a 4.2GPA, 1380 SAT, 31 ACT, tons of community service, AP classes, National Honor Society, BETA, etc etc. Wait list is tough because you can have to wait until July to find out if enough applicants opted out or not. That doesn't leave a lot of time to make other plans. Hard part is kids that had much lower resume from HS, got in. Her Mom graduated from UGA in 98.

Everything is harder to get into now and it all trickles down.

The kids who would've gone to one of the ivys 15 years ago are now going to Duke and Vandy. The kids that would've gone to Duke and Vandy are going to Virginia and North Carolina. The kids who would've gone to Virginia and North Carolina are going to Georgia and Florida, etc.

My best friend is a highschool teacher and a few of her students got denied from frickin Auburn. Where the hell do you go if you can't get into Auburn? Georgia Perimeter college?

That’s probably because they filled their applications with something other than Crayons. Overqualified.

When I was there in the mid-1960s I knew a couple of guys that were 3rd year freshmen, just passing enough classes to keep from getting kicked out. They were praying for the war to end before they got kicked out.

Actually, it’s likely those metrics won’t be used for admissions at all

They don't require Latin in middle / high school anymore

Sure sign we are dumbing it all down.

This must include grad school? I didn’t think my undergrad class was that big.

Auburn is for weak minded people. If you don’t know that you must not have gone to UGA

I live in Florida so with that - my oldest at 14 is looking at UCFs engineering school. Both my boys will probably go somewhere in this state. To many benefits of staying instate for cost reasons.
