He wasn't going be in Athens 5 years anyway, barring injury.

This.

If he is great, he won't be here past 4 years.

If he is good, can grow and learn behind fromm. Be great in his last year.

Hell... we may need him in a big game for a short yardage package.

If you need to know which way the wind blows you don’t need a waeteherman.....but a weather vane is pretty damned useful.....

I agree that he’s not ready, but in his defense he really hasn’t had many opportunities

We've all heard that he has gotten plenty of reps with the 1s since early spring. Apparently those reps are what is keeping him from meaningful time in games. Could it be?

Ridiculous thread. If Fromm was used last year like Fields has been this year, the results would be similar.

Fields comes in for one play at a time and is given simple plays that the defense is sitting on.

It's sad that it has come to this. We aren't really trashing Fields. He's on our team and appears to be sticking with us even though he isn't getting the playing time I assume he was anticipating. He is playing as well as you'd expect a true freshman with very few snaps.

The issue here is that there are some people on this board that were quick to throw Fromm under the bus when we've had some offensive struggles this season and have hyped Fields to be Tua 2.0 and essentially demanded Fromm's replacement. These responses are actually responses to those people.

I say, Old Bean, that is a smashing name! Capital, simply capital! A gentleman with a moniker like that would be equally at home either as the commander of Her Majesty's Coldstream Guards, or captaining a right ripping polo squad, yes.

Maybe so but I am responding to the OP whose thread simply says “Fields is not ready”.

My point is simply there is no way to know if he is ready or not by the way he has been used in games. Fields has not been given chunks of games not even entire series. So now on this game he gets 3-4 plays in a row that don’t go well and here comes the. “Fields isn’t Ready”. - that analysis is made by a person who has seen Fields play ZERO in practice and a handful of plays in games where Fields is brought in to do a zone read or QB keeper.

Saying “Fields isn’t Ready” is armchair analysis with no knowledge.

Furthermore, the goal line series where Fields takes the sack, the play before was pass interference where, had there been no PI, it was a TD, the pass was perfect.

If Fields was ready, you don’t think CKS wouldn’t start him or give him more reps? CKS wants to win more than anyone and wants UGA to be playing for NC’s. Listen to his pressers and he’s said all year Fields is progressing and learning, and is light years ahead of where he started in the spring, but he’s got to get better. Fields day is coming...sooner than later, but it’s not now. Enjoy the ride and trust CKS. Back to back sec championship trips hasn’t happened in a long time.

Fromm was forced into action and learned on the job. Fields is backing up Fromm and Fromm went to the Natty with a veteran laden team last year.

The tie always goes to the incumbent. I don’t believe it’s a tie and I do think Justin is behind Fromm right now - not disputing this. However, that doesn’t mean “Fields isn’t ready”. If Fromm was average QB, Fields probably starts week#1.

Just because we have a very good QB in Fromm doesn’t mean Fields isn’t ready.

That is where all of you are getting it twisted.

The only way to know that fields isn't ready is to leave him in and lose a game on his back.

Is it that imperative to know whether he is ready or not? How stupid as fans are we that this appears to be an important discussion when the only way to know for sure is to ride him until we lose?

Let the kid develop. That is what playing time gives him. He is obviously good enough not to redshirt.

My purpose in this thread is not to argue that Fields should start over Fromm.

My purpose is simply to point out there is NO EVIDENCE that Fields isn’t ready - in the absence of Fromm, Fields might already be having a lot of success right now.

Kirby has an embarrassment of riches and this is the way he wants to play it out - not even saying he’s wrong but there is no evidence that Fields isn’t ready right now.

I don’t think anyone doubt Fields has talents Fromm doesn’t. Fromm will never be the runner Fields is. But IMO, Fromm played 4 years of HS running a “college” pass offense and came in ahead of where Fields did. I believe that’s why Fromm was allowed to throw the ball while most of Fields snaps have been handing the ball off.
