Bottom line, we will never know what Fields could have been this year with the lack of meaningful playing time. I’ve seen him play more than most but that was on the HS level. The kid is special. His critics want to judge him on one play here and two plays there - Tom Brady couldn’t get into any type of rhythm being used that way - to say “he’s not ready” - if you want to infer that based on Kirby not playing him, then so be it, but it cannot be based on his game play because of the ridiculously small sample size and only getting specialty running plays.

Why do you and others keep carrying on with the notion that a player who doesn’t practice as well as another should get playing time over him? Its been said multiple times here that Fields doesn’t practice well. Couple that with the fact that the staff spends much more time with these kids than any of us do reading about them. If he is riding the pine there is good reason for it.

I am not seeing him say that. It’s not about fields should be playing ahead of Fromm.

I think the point is, Fields hasn’t been lucky like Fromm was last year. A freshman QB, more than anyone, needs PT, and he just isn’t getting it because the incumbant starter is healthy and playing well this year. With similar experience to freshmen Fromm, I think it’s safe to assume he would be having a good to really good season.

You and I see things differently then. It’s a more polite argument for Fields to get more PT. When he practices better he will get it.

You are seeing something that isn’t there and then choosing to not see what is there when I explain what is there.

As for your final point, He could practice great and he wouldn’t be getting more PT than he already is. He is a backup qb. Those players don’t get a lot of PT.

.

Or there is a scenario you haven’t considered. You’re wrong.

Then prove it. Point out the part of his post in which you think he said what you think he said.

It’s not me who jumped to an illogical conclusion based on who knows what and then claimed the other person is wrong.

I said you have considered that you are wrong but you did jump in a conversation throwing right and wrong around.

Maybe long will enter and back up your claim that you are right and I am wrong about what he said. I could accept that.

As I said before, practice observers who haven't been time limited say that Fields is a superior passer. I saw two superior passers against UMass but Fields has the bigger arm. I hope that the 2019 QB competition is won by the better player.

Justin Fields says “Hold my Beer”

Fields stat line
100yds rushing, 1 rushing TD
120yds passing, 2 passing TDs
ZERO Ints....for the year

Was finally allowed to throw ball down the field and threw TWO PERFECT bombs. One to Hardman for a TD and one to Robertson that he dropped - both couldn’t have been thrown better.

Guess he PRACTICED better. ;-)

While all of us are excited to see Fields perform well, it was still UMass he was matching up against. We knew he'd get a ton of playing time and he played very well for what he was asked to do, but their defense was overmatched the entire game. Fromm was perfect throwing it against them and our RBs were eating all day. Our OL was able to block well and provide excellent pass protection for almost the entire game.

What Fields showed me was that he's ready for more snaps against good defenses and that he's a legit weapon to throw as well as run (which I already knew, but it was good to see it more in action).

What he needs to work on is reading the defenses and working through his progressions as well as protecting the ball (he nearly had it swatted away at the end of his first big run today) and himself (he needs to learn to slide rather than try to bowl everyone over).

Today was a great day for Fields and UGA and I'm excited to see him continue to grow as a QB.

This is never “Fromm vs Fields” to me, there is too much of that here on this board.

Today was about Fields finally getting a real opportunity to throw the ball down the field - and - he proved he is very skilled at doing so. The kid is a duel threat in true sense of the word.

Fromm is leader of this team but Fields’ skills need to be fully utilized when he does come into the game and maybe now the coaches will continue to expand his role when he comes in against better teams - but with more options. Fields has been criminally under utilized.

I guarantee you that Saban’s butt will pucker when he watches this game film.
