It is a good feeling knowing we were able to pay off our old coach AND pay top dollar for new ones.

I look back when Sumlin got here how he couldn't get the DC he really wanted because of cashflow issues in the AD.

Part of me will always think "we would have won a national title in 2012 with Narduzzi as Dc."

When Jimbo's record in 4 years is about as good as Sumlin's we'll get another one

Sumlin went 31-20 without Manziel. Fisher will be better after four seasons.

Mhh. I don't know about that. I can see us going 6-6 this year.

We didnt lose to Florida or LSU because of defense.

But it's also possible w/a better DC that the 17 and 19 A&M scored in those two losses would have been enough to win. That D being so woefully thin was a pretty big issue though so maybe it wouldn't matter either way.

Eh idk about that. That defense overachieved as it was, given their lack of depth/inexperience in SEC play.

I don't think a better DC wrings any more production out of that group than we got, TBH.

Neither do I!!!

I’ve said it on here repeatedly and been downvoted to hell for it every time (because it’s like telling a kid there’s no Santa Claus).

You can scheme your way around talent deficiencies on offense, but you can’t on defense.

A great DC gets his players to play up to their potential. A poor DC’s defense plays below its potential. But a DC can’t really elevate a defense to perform beyond its overall talent level over the course of a season. Talent level is destiny on defense.

People don’t want this to be true because of what it means for us. But it’s a lot like the book The Bell Curve, which pisses people off for the same reason. It is what it is.

Agreed, sure Snyder in later seasons proved he wasn’t a great coach, but we didn’t lose the two games that first year because of defense. Yes, they could’ve been better (57th overall in total defense as I just looked up) but the Florida and LSU losses aren’t on the D.

I do agree that defense it’s much harder to scheme around talent. You either have the hosses in the trench and dudes who can cover people behind them or not. But a better coordinator can still get more out of the players than a poorer coach can. Snyder did ok when we had decent players that first year left over from Sherman’s tenure, but once he was on his own bringing in recruits and scheming around them, it was pretty clear he was in over his head. 3rd and long was where opponents wanted to be:

“6 yards for the first down? Let’s play 10 yards off the receiver and immediately start backpedaling when the ball is snapped. That will work!”

And where’s homeboy RK to tell us about his sources? Surly he can out them now since they didn’t prove to be overly accurate.....

I've called him out on this stuff before and he can never answer for it. I have zero doubt Roger's "sources" are comments he himself posted on other message boards.
