This is THE tone setting game for the season. If we're really building something special, we have to win this game. No two ways about it.

We blow Auburn out by 30 then still lose to Bama, Georgia, & Lsu. 8-4 and ranked around 20-25.

and we still carry around the perception that we are a program going in the right direction. we lose here? are looking at a 7 win team at most and we start to lose that perception

Or we get blown out, but then beat Lsu at Tiger. Then which game is more important?

Its too early in the season to claim this is the most important ever.

The optics of losing to a true freshman making his first road start would be really bad. Think Kevin Sumlin vs. Ole Miss in 2016 bad.

Auburn finally broke thr home team hex last season so maybe that means we're finally allowed to win at home

In my opinion, this is a must-win game.

8-4 with losses coming only to top 10 teams will be just fine. 7-5 to top 10 teams will be much more damaging.

I know it sucks, but we must beat a top 10 team, or we have defeated nobody. No other team we face will be ranked.

Auburn may be the only ranked appointment we have a chance to beat.

Lsu? I think we will match up well. I’m not so sure I’d surrender to Georgia yet either

Yup. Later games may be bigger, but their magnitude depends on how we fare vs. AU

We gotta have this one.

For what it's worth, Vegas has us as -3 point favorites.

And so far, we've beaten the spread every game.

Bold statements here when you take into account Auburn beat Oregon, and is likely to be the 5th hardest game of the season behind UGA, LSU, Bama, and Clem.

I’d put our chances at 40-60%. Our offense is shite and Mond is objectively worse than last year.

Edit: to add here, you chucklefricks are talking about a game that is the difference for us right now between a 4 loss season and a 5 loss season. Y'all are are putting way too much emphasis on it and need to settle down. This is a long season, and we're going to a mid level bowl and should be ok with that (this season). Auburn is a good team, and while we are too, this is a very lose-able game for us if our defense slips up and allows just 1-2 breakouts by Aubbie.

I’m with the above. I think y’all are overselling it a bit to be honest. The way auburn is so unpredictable from year to year this game may not mean much. They might be really good and we lose to them, but upset LSU or Georgia down the road (just like last year). We also need to make sure we don’t trip up against assumed wins like arky or ole miss.

There are still plenty of chances to “maintain program momentum” this season as we look to build for the future and keep recruits interested in us.

I mainly just want to win because we haven’t beaten them at Kyle since we joined the SEC and they finally broke the away team winner streak last year so we need to return the favor.

Didn’t we all say that before LSU last year

This is an important game.
