re: Is Sumlin getting a fair shake if he wins the next 2 with Starkel and we fire him?

and replace Sumlin end of 2018 is the prudent move here.

Sumlin only has 2 years left on his contract. Letting him coach in 2018 REQUIRES an extension. Bad idea on all ends.

With all due respect math must work a bit different in Texas, why give an extension to him?

When was the last time a coach finished his contract and wasn’t renewed?

Even if you end up moving on, you have to hold on to the perception of stability for recruiting as long as possible.

Sumlin is gone - when Liucci finally admits it, the fat lady is warming up

We also won't be paying him the full $10 million. As I've long said, when Sumlin is terminated he'll settle so info that would compromise his options in the future doesn't come out.

If it's as bad as you've previously indicated, why would we pay him anything? Just trying to make the transition as smooth and professional as possible?
Honest questions.

It's not diddling small children bad, and honestly not even a deal breaker for a future job. It just looks bad.

Not bad enough for him to agree to nothing. It involves his drinking and personal life. He's been caught up in a couple compromising situations.

I wonder if that's why Charlene posted the racist letter...as a response to this possibility.

We’re going to look bad for sitting on the info as well. That’s why we’ll have a settlement compromise.

Has this been confirmed by anyone? It's been the worst kept rumor for a while now (keyword here is rumor).

As far as how it will affect the buyout negotiations, I doubt it will even be brought up. Gossip within the coaching circles moves fast, so I doubt we can hold this against him. Most ADs interested in Sumlin probably already know about the rumor (I mean, there is a grainy video of him after all ).

He'll get his full buyout. If we negotiate something, it'll be the 60 day payout requirement. I doubt we want to do one lump payment and will try to get him to agree to payments over a period of time.

This isn't a rumor. His agent is already negotiating a reduced buyout with the AD.

I just can't imagine Sumlin leaving money on the table in order to keep the public from finding out about something they sort of already know.

That would be like Richard Simmons paying off the paparazzi to not run a story about him being gay. We already know .

That seems like it would hurt Kenny Hill more than it would hurt Sumlin.

I have heard through the grapevine about Sumlin showing up to work drunk in the past. But it's all hearsay and unsubstantiated rumors that I never cared for.
