Ugh. Well you're in it for the long haul now on those shares.

I've lost about 100K in my 401K YTD. It's terrible to watch, and know there really isn't anything you can do about it

In truth, I am thinking about buying some Exxon shares. Now is the time to get in on the markets.

Prior to covid-19 my 401k had lost about 10k. That doubled this week. Where we really got hit was our other investment accounts. Brutal.

Its ridiculous. Even Whole Foods was scraped clean. Although I am extremely thankful for my industrial toilet paper order that my roommate always makes fun of me for that I ordered out of need 2 weeks ago

Yeah my financial adviser sent me the "hold fast" email as well. Depressing watching it fall, but it will bounce back.

I put in a grocery store order this morning and found out they were completely out of triscuits.

I bought a choice brisket for 1.99 a pound at Kroger last night. Some stuff was picked over but they were only out of TP, sanitizer, some cleaning products, & strawberries.

Was at HEB at 6 this morning when the doors opened. You can tell the employees are frazzled. I looked like a hoarder with $300 worth of groceries but our family just got back into town after 2 weeks away and we purposely left the fridge empty when we left.

Warrior -

Seriously, I lost almost 50K on Thursday night alone. I'm probably going to sink about 30K into the market. I'm working with my financial. advisor to try and figure out what to buy, though Disney so low is a tempting deal

There’s some great money to be made when we hit a bottom, where that is I don’t know, but I’m gonna be throwing some more money in here soon. Very likely to buy some Exxon, the economy and oil prices are gonna stay down forever.

I think this whole thing is way over blown, but whatever. Even if you do think this is bad and our country is about to experience major shortages and whatnot, why the toilet paper??? I get hoarding food and water if you’re scared, you can’t live without that. But as uncomfortable as it might be, humans did live without tp for thousands of years, it ain’t the end of the world..... people are just dumb.

Buddy, you couldn’t be more wrong. Take the time and look at what is happening in Europe right now.If we don’t slow the spread and if we don’t do it fast we are in for a world of shite

Europe as in what? Outside of Italy (socialized healthcare, take notes) there aren’t countries that are that descending into chaos.

Agree with texag7, media has way, way overhyped this. Should people maybe be careful and not go out as much for a bit and stay at home an extra day or two if they are sick? Sure. But to act like this is the end of the damn world is just ridiculous at this point.

Good grief, think this through. There are a finite amount of intensive care beds

That’s it. There are only 3200 in the entire state of New York. What’s happening in Italy is that there is someone in every single one of those beds already

It would take very little for us to reach that point. That’s math plain and simple

South Korea has socialized healthcare too and they've handled it better than any other country.

Italy is getting crushed b/c they don't have enough ICU beds and ventilators which has very little do do with their actual level of HC. At the very least their populace doesn't have to worry about medical costs and gets paid sick leave so you aren't going to have many people who are unwilling to get tested or quarantine themselves so they were somewhat able to mitigate what could be a far worse situation.

We don't don't really have any of that on a mass scale so we are going to get people who refuse to go see a doctor or quarantine themselves which is going to make the spread much worse.

I think it's overhyped with so much bad information from the media that it's creating unnecessary hysteria at the stores and pharmacies. (those Saudis sure did pick a great time to frick with the global economy....those hajis can suck a pig's dick after all of this is done).

Having said that, I think there should be some level of concern as there is still a lot we don't know about the virus. Estimates put the death rate anywhere from 1-3%. To put that into perspective, if the virus is allowed to spread, that's 3,270,000 - 9,810,000 Americans that could be wiped from our economy in a matter of months. Compare that to our normal death rate in the US, which is about ~2,800,000 million people per year. Globally, we are looking at about 77,710,749 - 233,132,248 people dying (that is if the virus is left unchecked).

So yeah, I think we should be more concerned instead of treating this as a poli board pissing contest. People just have to be reasonable instead of being idiots who are buying up unnecessary amounts of toilet paper and bottled water.

Obviously a sensitive subject for you, based on your last couple of posts, so I’ll just let it drop. I apologize for the socialist comment, the politics board is crazy enough that it doesn’t need to be drug in here.

Everybody is free to have their own opinion and mine is that the flu season kills 10k+ people and infects millions every single year and the country keeps on ticking. We manage to handle that pretty well, I dont see why this will be much more different.

And I’ve seen a few articles speculating that we’ve already had this in the country for awhile and much earlier than people are realizing, meaning that hospitals would not be near as likely to be swamped by tens of thousands of simultaneous cases. Just my 2 cents, might be right, might be totally wrong, time will tell.

The genome sequencing doesn't show any proof of that. I've seen lots of anecdotal, "I was sick and tested negative for influenza" but not any science that backs up this claim.
