Sarge, you’re better than this. We aren’t replacing jimbo after this year. Now I’ll also disagree with the folks that keep saying we are stuck with him for at least 5 more years, the BMAs will axe his arse if we have another year or two like this one. They’ll find the money. But he ain’t going after this year, so this discussion is pointless.

Yeah, this is silly

We're going to hire an OC this offseason and these 18 year old 5 stars will eventually not be 18 anymore. It'll get better.

Don’t we already have an OC? Or haven’t we had one at some point?

Doesn’t matter as long as Jimbo is calling plays and that’s not changing ever. He thinks he’s a good coach, so why would he?

Darrell Dickey is our OC but he doesn't call plays.

I highly doubt Jimbo gives up playcalling after this season. He has zero reason to do it. We have no leverage.

I disagree with the others. A coaching change within three years is a high probability. Might as well start the discussion. Jimbo gonna go to coach West Virginia anyway.

How do we break the cycle of being the retirement destination for coaches?

Ever since Fran, seems we overpay, excuse mediocrity until it becomes embarrassment, then pay set-for-life money to make them go away.

We all know how this story ends and it's not with Jimbo holding up the NC trophy. He is too damn hard headed to give up play calling duties and we'll be stuck with outdated system until he is bought out, can't say we warned about that either. Recruiting on the offensive side will continue to lag behind which will in turn effect the defensive side at some point. Can you imagine the negative recruiting being done to us when it comes to offensive players? I feel for guys Stewart and Marshall that could gone anywhere to show their talents only to be stuck in Jimbos system, no way those guys are here in two years with the portal system as is.

Well for one we can stop giving out such stupid contracts that make it damn near impossible to fire a guy if he starts to fall apart. 3 of our last 4 coaches were too expensive to fire when they needed to be canned b/c our idiot boosters keep falling for the shite the coach's agents tell them. "We HAVE to make the contract fully guaranteed!!! No other way to get him!!! (please ignore that his current school looks like they may fire him...) or "Gotta give him a raise!!! Somebody might take him away!!!" (please ignore that nobody has called)

Ok how about this next time we do three things?

First, if a coach says he wants a fully guaranteed deal to come here hang up the phone and don't call him back. No coach deserves something like that from us until he actually does something worth a damn for TEXAS A&M and TEXAS A&M only. IDGAF if a guy won big elsewhere. If he's confident in his abilities as a coach he's not going to need a fully guaranteed deal b/c he's going to believe he'll earn a massive second contract by winning big here. If he isn't confident enough in himself that he can earn that second deal he's not worth the trouble b/c he's either looking to use us as a retirement plan or he knows that whatever he's done at his current school is built on a house of cards.

Second, wait until said coach actually gets a real offer to leave before giving out a raise. There are very few schools that can pay enough to steal a coach from us so right off the bat we should be very suspicious of an agent's claim that other schools are looking at our guy. If it's an NFL team that's sniffing around the odds of us keeping him are so low that it makes zero sense for us to try and stop it from happening ahead of time w/an unearned raise. Also, if they are willing to jet on us to another college within the first 2 or 3 years.... may as well let their arse go anyway b/c that's the kind of guy who is looking to move up as fast as possible and will soon be in the NFL.

Third, STOP GIVING A RAISE AFTER THE FIRST SIGN OF SUCCESS! Holy hell please make the coach show that he can SUSTAIN the success before falling all over how great he is.

Fran - makes Cotton Bowl at 7-4 OMG GIVE HIM A RAISE!!!
Sherman - makes Cotton Bowl OMG TIME FOR A RAISE!!!!
Sumlin - makes Cotton Bowl after being gifted Manziel OMG GIVE THIS MAN A RAISE!!!
Jimbo - makes Orange Bowl in COVID year and beats Bama in an 8-4 year OMG RAISE RAISE RAISE!!!!

We aren't going to hit it big until we stop bidding against ourselves and giving the HC all the damn leverage. The only HC we actually had the stones to fire before finishing his original contract was Sherman and that was still right after giving him a raise for a 9 win year.

Here's the contract I like: top 5 facilities, top 5 NIL support, 3 M/yr and 4M/ win over 8. Try to break me. Put up or shut up.

I don't know if we will or not, but he has a reason to. Losing sucks. The media in CS is mild, but they'll ask questions he doesn't want to answer twice a week. He's already getting roasted nationally. Next comes losing the fanbase and locker room. This ain't old amry's Kyle. Boos with reign down from the 12th Man if this continues. Then the boosters get involved. I don't care how much money he's making, all of that would suck for anyone. Jimbo has pride. He's not going to ruin his legacy by being a 7-5 coach yearly.

I’d disagree with that

And this is just a hypothetical cause Jimbo isn’t going Anywhere for at least 3 years

Aranda would be at the top of my list I think. I assume by the time we actually get rid of Jimbo he will be at a program where he is not attainable

“How?”

Late 40’s, couple big wins in a so-so conference, no D to speak of, paid enough now to get bank-breaker contract with A&M and no incentive to succeed.
