re: 2025 Transfer Portal Thread

Posted by socal91 on 12/10/24 at 10:55 pm to
The whole thing is nuts. I'm not sure how much interest I have if it's just one big pickup game.

I get letting kids transfer on a coaching change. But there again, that should be the exception not the norm.

Why in the world would you take a HS kid as an OL prospect? It takes a year or two of training to get them physically ready, and then by year two they want to leave for time, or money because another team needs someone. I'm almost on the Lane Train of just buy mercenaries.

Real, actual, enforceable contracts have to happen.

Tackling sucked but at what point does somebody tell the DE to play down the line and stop overpenetrating the play? The OT just kept pumping quarters into the pony out front of Walmart for another ride past the play. And not just any play but the same exact play! Were the guys in the booth just watching Friends reruns and didn't notice?

Which is a significant improvement relative to others. We buy "polite" a beer and hope for a good game with no injuries and no bad calls that decide anything.

Next thing you know, McDonalds will buy Franklins and Blacks. And Bucees just to add insult.
8-4 means you only made the short putts, and didn't play up even once. I would expect 9-3.

The portal and instant transfers have devalued the idea that it takes a few years to get "your system" installed with "your guys." The game now is about getting the guys who showed up this year in the best position to win using a system that can be loaded quickly.

Next year, a pile of "your guys" will be on someone else's payroll, be it NIL or pro, You'll have new ones, and the world is new again. Even if you recruit a stud 5* multi generational aggie lover, it makes zero sense for him to ride the pine and wait his turn. And less to stay in school once he gets hyped after a couple of years. OL as a possible exception.

SHOW ME THE MONEY.

CFB is in sore need of contracts. I like the Mike Leach recommendation.

oline

A good oline can make a mediocre skill team look realy good. A crappy online makes an excellent skill team look worse than crappy. Again. Does Adazzio have incriminating photos?? Even independent of him, a big knock on Fisher at FSU was sorry oline play,so it really just looks like more of the same.

Who wasn't? If we lose 2 qbs for the second year in a row even my atheist azz will consider us being punished by god.

No idea. But since when did money matter? :)

OL

Just watched Pittman's post game. Dead man walking, just not the right guy as a HC, and it's obvious. No shame in it, I'm not the right guy for CFO, but do well as COO.

That said, if he gets canned this week I hope we hire him for OL coach.

Am I the only Lions fan?

Posted by socal91 on 9/29/23 at 11:01 pm
I absolutely love the play. the attitude, the whole deal that the Lions are bringing. That Dan Campbell and Aaron Glen are bringing it makes me one happy MF. My GreenBay family is not with me this week.

Net works almost everywhere. I have this weird feeling you live in your parents' basement.

"Chris Marshall released do to breaking team rules."

For the good of those who come after him, I hope that he ends up asking "you want the sandwich, or the meal."

At the end if the day nobody cares about talent that for whatever reason is inaccessible.

Sleeve Gate looked like a pop Warner kid fighting with his dad the assistant coach.

Senior leadership

I just read a quote where one of the guys basically said that some of the new guys were "loose in the head" and that caused the Great Unravelling" of 2022. Is there not some modern day equivalent of dragging guys out under the west bleachers to "explain a few things in a way they can understand?" I get that you can't just beat an idiot anymore, but if fish become an ongoing problem then seniors are THE problem.
The reality is that coaching has been for years what playing is now. A purely mercenary endeavor for most people. Period. You are not a fan of the players, etc. It's whoever is wearing the jersey today. But that isn't a reciprocal agreement. For a few pesos, that same guy will be on the other side of the line next year. Just wait until there is an open window mid season!

See what Catfish Hunter started?

re: So, who's going to the portal?

Posted by socal91 on 12/16/22 at 11:03 pm to
Simplification is going to be the biggest deal. With early draft losses and the portal, you need a system that guys can pick up quickly. Let good athletes do what they do. That was Leach's genius. And Phi Slamma Jamma. It is part of why Kliff had quick success (having JM didn't hurt).

It's also why Kliff isn't special in the NFL. Having more time with more talent negates the benefit of simplicity.

But take OL as an example. If a guy isn't big enough until he is a sophomore and leaves when he's a senior, you only get a max of 26 games from him (ok, max max of 30). Better not waste any on complication.

I might rather have Chad. At least he'd show up with a chip on his shoulder.
