the ACC champion
Is not guaranteed a playoff spot. If UVA loses to Duke, the ACC champion is not making the CFP. Duke would be 8-5. They would not be one of the top 5 highest ranked conference champions unless the committee got really really creative

For the last time, it's not really that ND objectively should have been ranked ahead of Alabama in the first place. It's that ND is already ahead of Alabama, and it would seem absurd to reverse the relative rankings of the team based on Alabama barely beating Auburn and losing to UGA, and ND routing Stanford. That would be the new data that occurred since the last rankings where ND was ahead of Alabama, and why would that new data move Alabama ahead of ND?
The committee already got crucified enough when they made the almost completely meaningless decision of reversing the 6th and 7th seeds when Oregon beat a ranked Iowa team on the road (albeit unimpressively so) while Ole Miss beat an FCS team. Nobody would have cared if Ole Miss had been ranked ahead of Oregon before those games, but it seems retarded to suddenly reverse Ole Miss and Oregon's rankings based on the new data that week. Can you imagine the outrage if the committee reversed the last spot to make the playoff based on this new data of Alabama struggling to beat Auburn and losing to UGA while ND routs Stanford?

Just….no…worst they’d have is a split with UGA and that holds a lot of water. Their resume should hold serve already.

You seem angry. Although, I guess I can’t blame you. I would be too if I was stuck living in Alabama where the dating pool consists of my cousins or the 350 pound bearded cashier at Winn-Dixie.

There are a lot more teams with similar records this year. Say Alabama stays at #10 in Tuesday’s rankings but lose next weekend and BYU wins. BYU will “move up” and grab a spot, while seed #’s 11 and 12 will go to James Madison/AAC Champ/ACC champ. What do you think happens to Alabama in this scenario?

FPI somewhat shockingly only has Texas Tech as 3 point favorites over BYU.
But I don't really understand that. Texas Tech already beat BYU by 22. In addition, Texas Tech has outscored their 3 common opponents (UCF, WVU, and Utah) by 112 points, while BYU has outscored the same 3 teams by 37 points.
Now, just focusing on common opponents does remove Texas Tech's loss to Arizona State from consideration, but it also removes BYU's 3 point win over 3-9 Colorado from consideration. Some of BYU's other games like the 12 point win over 7-5 Cinncinatti as it actually played out (granted the final score doesn't look close at first sight due to Cincy missing 4 FG attempts) weren't so hot either.

Yep that is a joke. TTs defense is custom made to shut BYUs offense down and with TT playing for a bye they should be motivated to beat BYU.

And I don't really see how Alabama barely beating a 5-6 Auburn team
In case you havent been watching....3 top 10 and one top 15 team teams "barely" beat them. Auburn had some real flaws, particularly when Arnold was their QB, but that defense has been elite all season

The SEC will burn shite down if the committee leaves out Alabama. The only exception is if Georgia just blows them out or Ty gets hurt. I dont think people understand...this playoff is not on a long contract. There isnt some benevolent overseer of this. It requires the willing participation of all the conferences.
Weve been hearing ever since last season that SOS is of the upmost importance. This is so that SEC teams will schedule OOC teams with a pulse. If ND were to be put in over Bama, what SEC team in their right mind would ever schedule any decent team for OOC with an already brutal 9 game conference slate?
I dont care where they had ND, someone will get a call and they will change it or else the SEC will threaten to pull out of the ONGOING playoff negotiations for the contract extension.

Probably, but it shouldn’t be that way

This year, they would hypothetically be comparing a 3 loss Alabama to multiple 2 loss teams.
3 loss Alabama probably has more ranked wins than all the 2 loss teams combined. Bama will be in unless they just completely do not show up to the Conference Championship

Alabama will make the Playoffs because they think they are entitled. They would have lost last night had the officials not looked the other way when they hit receivers before the ball got there. If Auburn thinks they got jobbed by the officials in the Oklahoma and Georgia games, wait until they review the Bama game film. Offensive holding not called. Defensive PI not called.

This.
Absolutely no point in having it anymore. Just have the top regular season team win. Simple as that.
And, as much as I hate losing it, the SEC basketball tourney can go away as well, the regular season champ is the actual champion.

Nah Bama will get in after beating Georgia again and winning another SEC title

Disagree. Not getting dinged for playing in a Conference Title Game unless there’s a blowout loss, which ain’t happening. ND is going to get bumped from the playoff and replaced by Miami.
9. Bama or Miami
10. Bama or Miami
11. ND
10 is the cutoff point as the ACC champ will be in (as long as it isn’t Duke) and a G5 team will be in.

Not only that. SEC teams will schedule Rutgers, Boston College, etc...the teams that ND and OSU feast on in between their 2 tough games for the season.
