no, I want the best, don't care where they are from...
I am thankful we have so much talent in Louisiana though, not that Bama doesn't but there are plenty of states that don't.

The national Alabama fanbase isn't growing, just the national Saban fanbase. Guys want to come play for Saban and he has a national presence. A better question would have been when Saban retires, do Bama fans worry that the inroads in the state may be disrupted and hurt a new potential coach if he doesn't have that national appeal and has to look locally? Or Saban picks kids up from everywhere without maybe creating a Pipeline sort of speak, will that hurt a new coach?
Example, LSU gets kids from La and East Tx and West Ms traditionally. Miles and co have made in-roads and in Florid or Georgia but it may not be sustainable if he leaves. Saban gets a top player from multiple states whereas his replacement may not have that kind of national pull.

I'm going to post a simple sentence that distills this down to simplicity.
I wish I had their "problem".

No, in-state in roads drying up does not concern me. At all. We are Alabama, this is the state of Alabama.

It would worry me if we had a day where an LSU fan didn't start a thread about Bama, that would worry me.

sure it doesn't bother you, because there is not much talent coming from bama. they have to get it somewhere.

Umm yes it is. The University has the highest percentage of OOS undergrad enrollee's in the SEC, excluding Vandy.

I think of it like this, for athletes and overall student body, their more out of state students/athletes that wasn't to go to your school, you get a better quality university. Smarter kids, better athletes. It will help us overall in the short term (better/smarter candidates) and long term (larger endowment and quality legacies).
And to the op asking if we think kids just see us as a path to the nfl. Look at 2013. Our players were entitled, and thought that just being Bama and showing up was all it took to win. But that entitlement came from the Alabama kids just as strongly as from oos kids (cough...cough...AJ...cough). So overall, the only negative I see is in state students want to go to Bama, will end up elsewhere. And Alabama kids that might've wanted to go to Bama, will sometimes end up at auburn. So is being nationwide actually helps auburn in many ways.

quote:bullshite. Kids stay 4 years because they aren't good enough to be drafted where they are after 3 years.....and most of these out-of-state players are elite athletes and will be able to leave earlier than the others. This ain't Disneyland, pal....grow up.
Not an Alabama fan, but I feel that in state kids are more likely to stay a full four years. Could be wrong about that, but kids who grow up rooting for an in state school seem more loyal to the school. I do not think it is a worrying trend --- except for the fact that most good out of state guys will probably leave in three years.

I love the fact that LSU has signed such a talented group of running backs- all in-state, including two from within the shadows of Tiger Stadium. It's cool to see local guys stay home and go with the program they grew up with....

Bama sure as shite doesn't look worried. They've lost like 7 SEC games in the last 7 years. Their stable of out of state mercenaries and prostitutes have been earning every penny.

No. We have had great success with out of state recruits. Joe Namath, Mark Ingram, Shaun Alexander come to mind.

2015 - signed 4 of top 6 in-state (2 of top 3)
2014 - signed 3 of top 6 in-state (top 2)
2013 - signed top 5 players in state
2012 - signed 3 of top 5 in-state
The only 2 top 5 players in state since 2012 to sign with someone other than Alabama or Auburn are Jameis Winston and Chris Casher in 2012.
So, no, not concerned about top kids in-state drifting away.

Our Texas boys grew up with Louisiana in their hearts. They were just waiting to get over here. Your players are no different from the $100 whores on backpage--not even Eros or TER level.

Really? Do you even watch college football? In the last few NFL drafts:
Andrew Smith - 1st rounder from state of Alabama
Julio Jones - 1st rounder from state of Alabama
Mark Barron - 1st rounder from state of Alabama
Dee Milliner - 1st rounder from state of Alabama
Dre Kirkpatrick - 1st rounder from state of Alabama
Marcel Dareus - 1st rounder from state of Alabama
Courtney Upshaw - 2nd rounder from state of Alabama
I could go on, but you likely get the point. Also, as the other poster pointed out, Bama is doing just fine in state:

A home grown guy that gets on at Alabama or Auburn are always a good and give folks a feel good story if they make it to the pro's.
But when UA & AU share this state and both teams have had a share in fielding national championship caliber teams for the last 5-6 years, then that talent can come from Argentina or Australia and the fans won't give a crap.

weird thread
Why would anyone give a shite where recruits come from as long as it's the best talent.
