I don't think he had very good coaching through high school, as he bounced around so much. I think the potential is off the charts, or Coach Saban would have never taken a chance on him. He seems to be settling in.
Yeah, I know he played at a few different schools and ended up not even playing one year or something. He might just be the kind of guy who needs structure to succeed. If the coaches can get him to focus and give 100% on every play he's going to be good though. His ceiling is through the roof.

“The acceptance of this extension expresses our commitment, my commitment, Terry and I’s commitment, our family’s commitment to the University of Alabama, for the rest of our career," he said. "We made that decision after the season when other people were interested.”
When asked which school or team made overtures, Saban said: “It doesn’t really matter. We wanted to stay at Alabama. We’re staying at Alabama and weren’t interested in going anywhere else.
“We’re really pleased and happy to be here.”

If Fanning gets on the field and tastes his potential the thought is he may not come back off. I was talking to a guy in football ops last yr about the freshmen class. He said "we have two defensive kids that are definite 3 and gone to NFL, but if it clicks for Fanning he'd make it three. He's got as much potential as anyone on the roster."
(the two definites were HaHa & Dickson)

Lemont (Ill.) Township offensive tackle Ethan Pocic will be in Tuscaloosa tomorrow for a visit. The 6-foot-7, 290-pounder is on the back end of a Southern swing that included stops at Florida, Florida State, and Auburn. Pocic doesn't have an offer from UA at this time, but that could come tomorrow while he's on campus. Ohio State is considered to be in the best position at this time.

Did anyone see the quote from Saban about Stoutland not getting a raise?
quote:
"As a university, we make decisions to do things because we think it's the right thing to do," Saban said. "In the future, I think Jeff Stoutland deserves to get a raise based on the merit of the work that he's done here, but I also think that it wouldn't be smart on our part of ignore other things that have happened."

Yeah. Sounds like that Miami crap hurt him.

Looks like his time in Miami just bit him a little. Lets hope it is the only bite he experiences.

Not just that but I almost think the way he seriously flirted with Tampa Bay for the OL job after he told people at Bama he wouldn't answer the call, and he did, kind of pissed some people higher up off

If the Tampa Bay flirtation is a big part of it, I would bet Saban alread has his short list of replacements waiting in the drawer.

Fanning is has to weigh more than Dial looking at those pics.

He has a short list of replacements for everyone at all times. He probably even has a short list of recommendations for who UA should hire to replace him. Hopefully Hootie isn't on it this time.

frick stoutland. justin smiley and chris samuels are my fav OL coaches at UA.

Jeff Stoutland is a tremendous offensive line coach and recruiter. Justin Smiley and Chris Samuels don't have one year of experience coaching the offensive line between them. That's why they're interning.
If the Nevin Shapiro ordeal in Miami eventually implicates him, I would love to see Will Friend or Neil Calloway come back to Alabama.

Not according to the released spring roster.

He's not really a great recruiter, but he did well with the Oline last year

He has done a great job with Warmack and Fluker.
