This is a few days old, but I still found it interesting.
Bama leads for Matthew Thomas
Bama leads for Matthew Thomas
quote:
Thomas does have a top three -- Miami, Florida State and Alabama. “Right now, Alabama is my favorite,” Thomas said. He said each of his current top three schools has a different appeal. Thomas likes that Alabama is No. 1 in the country. He was very impressed with the fact that Tide HC Nick Saban came to see him in December. “He was the first Head Coach to visit me.” Another thing that appeals to him about UA is, “I really like the way they use their LB’s. I think I want to play in a 3-4 defense in college.” “I know some guys that have gone to Miami and they seem to really like it there. As far as FSU, “one of my sisters went there and she really was happy there.” As far as grades, Thomas said that will not be a problem. “I am good to go. I take my test in April and will be done with that,” he said.

There is an article on 247 from a little over a month ago about Thomas. Said he had been to 3 Junior Day at DA U and that they were making him the top priority in this class. It has some quotes as well but they are basically the same ones you posted.

I just found it odd. I had always assumed we were running 3rd and that this kid was essentially a Miami lock, but who knows, maybe we actually have a good shot.

I dont remember seeing his name mentioned on BOL. I'll try to make a post over there tomorrow and see what the staff says or even that poster that it is out of Florida. He seems really tuned in into what is going on down there.

Last Recruiting Corner on TideSports included that the staff loves Thomas, so I guess they are making him a priority.

I probably just missed it and forgot about it since I have so much going on the past few weeks. That linked article pretty much said that if there was no RF, he would be the talk of the country.
His sister goes to FSU. DC is there too

Took a nap for a sec, but in regards to Stoutlands recruiting, one of the first things I do when we make a staff hire is see who he was responsible for bringing in at other schools. I checked Stoutland while he was at Miami and it was beyond 'meh'. If he was cheating then he fricking sucks at it

Should have been starting the last two years, will this be the third year?
Nico is the best run stopper

DePriest is the best blitzer
DePriest is a better run stopper than CJ
DePriest is better at taking on linemen than CJ
CJ is best in coverage
Depriest is better than Nico in coverage
All 3 will rotate and be utilized in specific D&D packages. All 3 will be viewed as starters.

I know they put all TF on the bottom, he is DEFINITELY not 4th, in fact I've been told its closer to Williams 1A and AT 1B, and he will be a major contributor on the line. Our DL is so deep it is ridiculous

Based on the video I have seen, A Taylor needs to get his pad level down. He has the leg strength to be a great NT but his upper body strength is not good enough yet to get away with playing high like J Williams tends to do.

Does anyone know how reliable the guys at Crimson Confidential are? Last week AJ said nothing has really changed from the offense and terminology standpoint but this artical says that there has been a good bit of change to both as far as the WR's are concerned.

The entire offense is new, the terminology is different, and the receivers are even having to learn new routes, but the Tide has plenty of capable athletes in its offense.

How many times have you seen Dodd play in person?
"Adding up practices and games, I’ve seen him at least 15 times."
What is his body type?
"I think he’d agree that he went from 260 to 300+ without the best weight, but in the last five or six months, he’s really toned up. He’s working out extra hard and working out after school. He carries the weight well and played at 305 pounds last year as a jumbo tight end. You can see on the film, he’s running routes and catching balls. He’s a big athlete for sure."
What are Dodd’s strengths and areas he needs to improve upon as a player?
"I think the biggest thing with Andy is that the talent is there and he’s very athletic. It was whether he was going to put in the extra work in to be an SEC/Alabama type of player and in the last six or seven months, I’ve seen that out of him. When I think of Andy Dodd, I think he has a tremendous upside and in no way is he tapped out.
"He’s by no means stiff, shows good bend, and has great feet. He has the size right now. At times he seems to try to simply overpower and could work on getting a little lower with his pad level. Those are things that are addressed very quickly in college under a college offensive line coach. Like I said before, it’s pretty impressive to see a guy that big running down the field catching balls. He’s where he needs to be right now as an offensive lineman heading into his senior season."
How do you see him fitting in along the offensive line for Alabama?
"I think it’s going to be a good fit. When you look at Alabama, you see those big guys up front and they tend to like those bigger linemen that are 6-foot-5, 300-pounds and he’s already in that mold. He may even grow a little more. I think he can play guard inside or be a center down the line. He’s already doing some snapping. He definitely fits the mold of the offensive linemen that Alabama has recruited in the past under Nick Saban."
You mentioned Dodd played tight end for Pepperell last year. Are they going to move him to tackle this season?
"They’re going to move him to tackle. The only reason he didn’t play tackle last year was used a jumbo set with him and Dakota Ball to seal the edge. They’re definitely going to move him to tackle and take advantage of his size. He’s changed numbers and everything."
How do you see Dodd stacking up with other top offensive linemen in the state of Georgia?
"I think he’s right there. A lot of people are going to say that guys like Brandon Kublanow and Josh Cardiello have a lot of offers and are very good players. The one thing you’ll notice between Andy and those guys, is that Andy is two or three inches taller and probably 15-20 pounds heavier. Andy is certainly right there with those guys and has an impressive offer list. If Andy has the spring I expect him to have, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him as a four-star."
What do you know about the type of person he is off the field?
"Great kid- he has high academics and that’s not an issue. He’s always been a yes sir, no sir kid. I’ve seen him when they’ve won and lost and he acts the same way. I’ve never seen anything that would be a concern with how he acts away from the game and out of the limelight.
"He’s a very quiet young men and Dakota was the same way. He’s been through the recruiting process and made his decision and now he’s done with it. That’s the type of kid he is."

Name:Caleb Gulledge
Position:Offensive Tackle/Strong Side Defensive End
247Sports Ranking:23rd in the State of Alabama, 61st Offensive Tackle
High School:Prattville (Prattville,Al.)
Recruiter: Jeremy Pruitt
What have you been up to since signing day?
“Not much, just really enjoying my senior year and taking it easy, but hitting the weights hard probably twice a day and sometimes I’ll run anywhere from two to three times a day. I am just getting in shape before I get up there.”
How difficult have you found the strength and conditioning program to be?
“It has been challenging, but I know that it is going to be that much harder when I get up there, so I just want to go ahead and get used to it. My strength coach has done a great job working with me.”
What is your current height and weight?
“I got measured at 6’4.5 in Tuscaloosa and I weighed 280 pounds.”
Are you trying to add or lose any weight before arriving this summer?
“Probably about what I am now.”
When will you be arriving on campus?
“May 29th.”
Is there anything that you are excited to experiencing once you get settled in on campus?
“Just the atmosphere. I am actually the first person in my family to go to a four-year university, so I am just ready to get up there and make them proud by getting my education and enjoying Tuscaloosa.”
Do you know who you will be rooming with?
“I am planning on rooming with Darren Lake, but I am not sure about my other roommates yet.”
Are there any guys in your signing class that you have been able to build a friendship with?
“Yeah, I would say Darren Lake and Denzel Devall. I talk to Denzel quite a bit.”
Have you found out what number you will be wearing yet?
“I was trying to get 82, but I am not positive on if I got that yet. I’ll know that when I come up for the spring game.”
There has been a lot of debate as to whether you should be an offensive or defensive lineman…Which would you prefer to play?
“I would love to play defense, but Alabama is my dream school. I am open to anything that they want to do, but all I have heard from the coaches lately is defensive line.”
Do you want to be a guy that helps to recruit more Prattville guys to the Capstone?
“I am just going to talk to them and not try to push them too hard. I think that Alabama is a great place, but it is not for everyone. I’ll just tell them that if you want to work hard and you want to win, then Alabama is the place for you.”
Who are the players that you model your playing style after?
"On the offensive line, I would have to say Michael Oher. On the defensive line, I would have to say Jared Allen.”
What are your expectations coming into your freshman year?
“I just know that I am gonna bust my butt in everything I do and I am gonna try to earn a job. If anything, be a backup and get quite a bit of playing time.”
Do you speak with Coach Chris Rumph often?
“I have actually talked with him quite frequently lately. I went up to spring practice and hung out with him and Coach Stoutland a lot, because you never know where you will end up.”
What do you like to do when you are not playing football?
I like to get out and play basketball, baseball, and wiffle ball. Just get out there and be active.”
What is your favorite food?
“Chicken.”
What is your favorite video game?
“Probably NCAA Football 2012.”
What is your dream car?
"I would say an Aston Martin V-12 Vanquish.”

Sounds like a good kid. Caleb is one of the least talked about/heralded guys in the class. Hopefully, he can come in and suprise some people (in his 2nd or 3rd year).

Gulledge was one of my favorite commits in 2012, some wanted him to "look elsewhere" to open up space.
I still want to know why they are so adamant about him playing DL. He earned his offer during a camp after Pruitt saw him in a drill, so I assume he was displaying some good athleticism for his size or technique. That can be expanded upon on either side I guess. Scouts really liked his frame too, said he could add more if needed.
And he was offered by a pretty respected line coach in Rick Trickett, which gives him some credibility as an OL. Although Trickett likes his guys a bit different than Stoutland. I tcould have also been just to lock up Prattville more so than CG was a must get for FSU.

It appears I'm not the only one who sees Dodd as a Center. Good thing he is already working on snapping the ball.
