Is Urban Meyer a malingerer? (fake hurt/sick)

This guy asks a legit question:

quote:

Urban Meyer, asked about his past health issues as he jumps back into coaching: "It’s something I’m gonna watch very closely... "I’m not gonna be running around like a nut on the practice field. Those days are gone."

Urban's a great coach. One of the best in the game obviously. That's never in doubt.

But does his character need work (upvote) or do you think he's a good, trustable guy (downvote)?

The timing of his "if he doesn't slow down he will die" maladies does seem to arise at peculiar times. On the other hand, he may just be a guy who goes so hard that any additional things (Florida's internal collapse, wide receiver coach beating his wife fallout) really do make his body start shutting down.

Either way - it's pretty clear that if all of his issues are legitimate that the minute bad things start piling up in Jacksonville he's going to have some health problems again. So, hopefully for his sake things go good.

He's one helluva football coach.

As long as he wins football games, no one cares.

And he can win football games

I’m a Jags fan so I gotta have a good outlook on him for the time being. Even if he sucks, at least we’re somewhat relevant this off-season.

Not an evil guy, but the character aspect of leadership is well below his coaching abilities.

Probably a good way to put it.

I would be very surprised if he can sustain success in the NFL.

I admit I'm just guessing, but that's my gut. I'd be interested in hearing the arguments of those who think he'll do well, however.

If we are going to try and find a head football coach who is trustworthy we are going to have to see what coaches are on the hot seat.

You think this guy is trustworthy?

Not sure why he thinks he can succeed in the pros.

You might get 7-10 draft picks and 3-5 free agents a year. It can take 3 years to get the roster where you want it.

Also college hashes make the field very different as far as attacking the defense. He was a great college coach, but the list is long of great college coaches who struggled at NFL level.

Best of luck to the Jags.

He’s a douche. He only wants to coach when things are going his way. He will cop out again when Sunshine doesn’t pan out for him.

I got it at UF. Tebow left and Saban was just warming up. But at OSU, he had everything. He could skip through the season with only 1 hard game. Its so confusing as to what he was dealing with or not dealing with.

In College he can win football games. That doesn't always translate. That control freak mentality he has will likely not work in the NFL. If he can change that, he can be successful. I'm dubious.

I always knew he was sleazy but he came off looking like a real dirt bag on Wondery podcast Gladiator: The Aaron Hernandez Story.

I have to disagree. He and his wife looked the other way on that whole Zack what’s-his-face thing for YEARS. He let a woman continue to be beaten by her husband for YEARS!! He and Shelley knew. She went to them for help. They did NOTHING. That sounds evil as shite to me. They are walking human garbage with zero moral compass.

Quitter w/a capital Q. I don't give it three years. Two years on the couch out of college then to the pro's. Not. A. Chance.
