Y’all are really going to try and convince yourselves this was a massive pull by Kiffin.

anyone with eyeballs can see that BOB is the actual problem.

that doens't mean that bama can't and won't do better than golding though. He was a small hindrance that they need to overcome, while BOB is literally an anchor around the program.

Oh, don't you worry. BOB will be gone also soon enough.

Golding did not coach the OLBs, who have been extremely good.

Though he did do his best to completely take them out of the game by scheming them into coverage and pass rushing the middle of the OL alongside a single defensive lineman.

yup. As long as he helps OM get a couple more stops per game than last year, I'm happy.

It will, and he'll recruit better players which will help tremendously.

I honestly think that he was in over his head early and he never quite got comfortable with himself. He always seemed to outthink himself and try too much in spots where he didn't need to. And he apparently seriously struggled with communication, which makes sense for a young guy like he was. That stuff was ok early on, but it just never got any better.

Saban loves him. Thinks he's a great defensive mind and loves that he works his arse off. This is a change that he probably needed as much or more than us.

Uh huh. Have fun watching your best pass rusher, whoever he is, inexplicably drop into pass coverage at the worst possible time.

Call me after the 100th time your middle linebacker delay blitzes up the middle straight into a waiting interior OL while the QB casually completes a 15-yard crossing route to the now wide-open middle of the field.

if golding was so bad for 4 years, why did the GOAT head coach keep him around?

and did saban run him off or did he want to get out of there because of the fanbase?

I personally believe that Golding is a good DC (definitely top 20 and maybe top 10) and good recruiter. But at Bama we expect elite defenses, not just good defenses. I think Ole Miss just made an upgrade at DC, and I believe Bama will also make an upgrade.

But also keep this in mind. While Golding did have top 10 defenses at Bama, he did that with maybe the most talented roster in college football. He won't have that at Ole Miss. But again, I do think Ole Miss upgraded their DC spot.

Because he's a smart guy who Saban thinks is young and maturing and that he would get better at things he struggled with. And he just never really did. This was the season to see a dominant group - returning starters everywhere, 2 first round picks, a bunch of solid seniors. And we looked just as lost and timid as we did in 2019.

Our defense failed against every solid offense we played (and some not so solid ones) and continually played their absolute worst football at the biggest points of every big game - including a few we won (Texas A&M, Arkansas). It was time to try something else.

Maybe because DUIs are state-level offenses and now he gets a clean slate.

Just remember, It wasn’t Pete Golding that Freeze and manziel were cooking 6-7 years ago.

Two of the three years you're talking about ended with us winning the national championship. We need a better product than what Golding was putting on the field recently, especially in the 4th quarter of tight games.

He should do well in Oxford, good luck.

What they didn't do was get cooked by middling/pretty good offenses like Arkansas, Texas A&M, LSU and Auburn of this past season

Hey, LSU had a solid offense.

LSU did not have a "go up and down the field on the 3 most important possessions of the night with absolutely no resistance from a supposed national title level defense" level offense

This is ultimately why he isn't going to be back. Our defenses over the last 4 years have collapsed at critical moments as predictably as the sun rising in the East.
