Florida and Georgia have MASSIVE advantages when it comes to academics and athletics due to the sheer population #s of Florida and over the top growth of behemoth Atlanta. Throw in the fact that you have scholarships to each school through state supported lotteries and you increase your student talent pool probably 10 fold. There's no way the other SEC schools can compete with that from a population/money perspective.

Frankly, I'm amazed that Alabama and Auburn do so well academically relatively speaking considering the amount of money they have to work with from the state.

Keep in mind that the State of Florida also supports Florida State, which is academicaly superior to the majority of the SEC. USF and UCF are also major research institutions.

first, UGA is not "to a lesser extent" an academic school to UF. i will give UF the nod but we are neck and neck with florida academically.

FSU is not at UF nor UGA level yet either. i'd put them around AU and bama

bama's academics are getting better by the year. they are putting so many funds into facilities and such that i really think in 10 years they will be close to Georgia and/or Florida's level now and that Georgia and Florida will be closer to that of Texas.

Money has nothing to do with a great education. UF and UGA have better talent pools.

money absolutely has something to do with it. bama isn't becoming a better school simply because you have a huge influx of talent. it will certainly be at a slower rate but IMHO bama has passed AU as best school in alabama. public school at least

That's what "to a lesser extent" means.

Check out the admissions averages.I'm willing to wager that FSU is far and away better than Bama/AU/LSU/Tenn/Kentucky/MS Schools.

Speaking only for Florida, they are hamgstrung by ridiculously low in-state tuition. A Florida resident attenting UF is getting one hell of a deal. I also believe they take more in-state students than Texas, which "academicaly recruits" nationally.

Again, I can't speak for UGA in this regard.

Hope is what makes UGA what it is. all the kids who would go out of state come here because its dirt cheap to go here.

i agree about the FSU claim, i thought you had them on UGA and UF level

and my bad on the lesser extent thing. i thought you had us significantly below.

The tuition is too low, IMO. It is just under $4,000 right now for in-state. $4,000 a year for a top 50 university. That is just crazy.

Then why is FSU always ranked so low? Their other measurables must be horrendous.
