We’d have a solid case for being the class of the SEC in the 80s with our 4 SEC titles were it not for the fact it took us a couple of years to get rolling with Dye.

you can't be the class of any decade without having won a national title in it.
And that's not talking shite either, just seems like it'd kind of be a prerequisite.

Is there a trophy for that?

We started the decade off 0-6 in the SEC in 1980 which hurt us as far as the entire decade. But from 83-89 we were the class of the league for sure. 4 titles in 7 seasons.

Not sure I'd agree with that. Back in those days, winning a championship was more arbitrary. A weak schedule was helpful and bowl tie-ins/selections had a big influence on the voting outcome. Passing the eye test was important, because in the end it was a beauty contest. Votes still matter, but not nearly as much.

Well 80s Auburn did that (1983).

Since the SEC started in the early 30s...why did they stop in the 60's?

1930's - BAMA, LSU and UT tied for wins, but BAMA had the highest winning %.
1940's - UGA
1950's - Ole Miss

BAMA is the only SEC team to win an SEC football title every decade since the league was created.
Also, the Tide won Southern Conf titles in 1924, 1925, 1926 and 1930.

"Winningest SEC teams by decade (since 1960s)"
Based on the thread title, why omit UT, A&M & OU?
You have a rare talent for speaking at length without disturbing the facts.
