I loved it when I was young and saw it on VHS. When I watched it recently I burst out laughing repeatedly.

It seems like Florence Pugh is in everything and I don't really get her appeal.

I know this will be an unpopular opinion but I recently watched the original and wow has it not aged well.

Watched the whole series, it's very good. I really like Tom Burke. He's also great in CB Strike, the detective series on HBO based on the books by JK Rowling's pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

You mean like a dictator?

For all the complaining about 'no kings' and calling Trump a dictator, etc, there really is a strata of the left that wants to be ruled and dominated by a monarchical figure. They really believe there's someone on their side who will be some kind of benevolent ruler. Sure, it will work out this time.
I really enjoy baking, it was something I struggled with for a long time, but lots of repetition has gotten me to a point that I'm generally happy with what I make. Still haven't mastered laminated doughs, but will keep trying.

One thing that I have come to appreciate is how difficult it is to run a consistently good bakery. It takes an enormous amount of work to put out a consistent, high quality product. It's easy to see why most bakeries take lots of shortcuts.
The CEOs are probably pretty salty about being brined.

Matthew Rhys and Stephen Root are great casting.

She climbs into your bed and sits on your face."

I don't really disagree. I think the problem is the current definition of 'elite'. I'll take someone with a successful policy track record, someone who has shown they can manage a bureaucracy and get things done. Today it's simply a matter of credentials: you went to certain schools, hung out with certain people. As I said most of these people are grossly incompetent and obviously stupid, yet, they're considered 'elite'.
I get what you're saying. He was actually asked about that and his response was really good. People like Bass, Newsome, et al are generally referred to as 'elites'. They have the resume, they have the credentials, etc, and yet based on actual results, they're almost universally incompetent, corrupt, and observably stupid. He also pointed out that when he was in his twenties he was a reality tv star. Bass was in Cuba learning how to be a revolutionary and destroy the United States. If you forget about credentials and just listen to what he's saying, he's actually kind of impressive. I think it says a lot about where we, and specifically LA and CA are when someone just talking sense seems like a political Godsend.

This strategy was used effectively by:
Joe Biden
Abigail Spanberger in VA
Katie Hobbs in AZ

Avoid debates, avoid the press, refuse to answer questions, get elected. If Harris runs again she'll probably try this too.

That's awesome.
This is basically a Keurig cocktail maker. I actually enjoy making drinks, learning new techniques etc. This just seems like an alcohol delivery system. If that's your thing, cool, but I think it removes one of the enjoyable aspects of drinking.

"Are you out here looking for minorities?"

Minorities? You mean like fat crazy white women?
I get what you're saying, and it says a lot about CA politics that the best they can do is someone like Katie Porter. She's a loon and an awful person. One of the most remarkable things about the age we live in is just how bad our political class is, pretty much across the board. This is the biggest state in the union and would be one of the most prosperous countries in the world on its own, and yet there isn't a single candidate to lead it that I would trust to go to the grocery store and buy a list of groceries.

Are you a communist?
His response to a reporter’s question about his origins as a reality tv star was hilarious and devastating. He basically said “you’re asking me about what I was doing when I was twenty years old. Let’s take a look at what Karen Bass was doing when she was twenty years old. She was in Cuba training to be a communist revolutionary and destroy the United States”. Or something like that. He’s really effective in his messaging and it’s not some high brow political rhetoric. He’s not going to win but he’s going to do some good and shift the Overton Window.
quote:

At that time, the mixed Presidency/Congress was actually quite effective (as far as government goes).
I think it was effective specifically because of the Republican leadership in Congress. You had Bob Dole as Senate Majority Leader, and Gingrich as speaker of the house, with Dick Armey as majority leader and Tom Delay as whip. They had put forth a very clear plan of action with the Contract with America, and they largely executed it after they took power, with Republicans voting in near unanimity. Republicans haven't had that kind of leadership and cohesion in Congress since.
